Wow
Damn. I kinda was hoping he’d open his mouth and be a castrati. That would have made me laugh.
Wow is an understatement - I have seen I don’t know how many version of Turandot - and that was a gorgeous rendition of the aria, some small quavers that could be cleaned up, but as good as any pro I have heard - I really hope this man finds a good operatic coach. He is a quality tenor and would be a great addition to any house.
That was amazing. My wife and I often wonder about all the people in the world who have the ability to do that but never discover it. Good for him.
Wow is right. That was amazing.
I think he’s supposed to be on the Today show on Thursday.

If you could hear what i sound like in my head, you’d be impressed. i am a VERY talented singer, in my opinion.
in NOBODY elses opinion, unfortunately.
Amazing singer obviously. Now for bad jokes?
Only in Britain could those teeth win. Only in America could an idiot beat boxer come in 2nd in our version of Idol. And their version of Paula is waaaaaaaaaaaay more attractive.
Wow.
He was kindof like one of those rare desert flowers that blooms briefly and then goes away… walking on to the stage, he was just this pudgy cell phone salesman… He starts singing and blossoms into a frigging Caruso. Soon as he stops singing, you can watch the lights go down, and he’s back to the quiet, pudgy no-confidence dude.
You could tell he was really touched by the reaction of the crowd and the judges. I hope he does go far.
Watching Simon almost drop his pencil when he started singing was priceless… he was STUNNED.

“I hope he does go far.”
He won the whole thing. And without ever laying eyes on his competition, I’m going to go out on a limb and say “and deservedly so.”
Turns out though that he was a trained opera singer but fell on some bad luck. But he was still a great story. The little girl he beat was decent but not as good as they made her out to be.

Right away you could see that Simon was already making his evaluations and lack of interest based on the singer’s appearance. Simon is really an American. Talent can be faked/shielded, appearance can be marketed. We have countless examples.

That guy was awesome. I have to admit, when he was waiting for the music to start I didn’t know if he was going to be really good or really bad.

It choked me up a bit to see someone so talented, yet so insecure, kick ass in the moment in front of a large audience. Although it may send my metrosexual score to the realm I don’t want it to go … I found myself having a similar reaction as the “Hotter than Paula” lady had. Good for him. Rarely in life do people really “seize the moment” … but when it happens, it is so sweeeeeeet.
I know it’s a dumb rap song, but the words from Eminem’s Lose Yourself crept into my mind … something about “feel fail me not, this might be the only chance that I’ve got.”
Thanks for sharing. That was awesome! But it’s amazing how many people lack confidence in this world. It kind of blows me away how, after his performance, he went back into his cell phone character. Maybe it’s all part of his game, but that was great.
And yes, maybe we should start a web site dedicated at finding a Paula replacement, www.replacetheparrot.com ?
But it’s amazing how many people lack confidence in this world.
It’s amazing, but not surprising. Look at how much we beat each other down? How much we ridicule others to make ourselves feel better? Look at our standards of cool/handsome/etc that many of us can never live up to.
Look at little time it took for someone to make a “bad teeth” joke. How many overweight comments or unhandsome comments has this guy heard in his life?
Personally, I’ve had enough of our ideal of fake tan, bleached teeth, colored hair, expensive “fit in” clothes, etc … just to create an image. I feel very fortunate to be among a small group of freinds who seem to be happy in their own skin. It’s just amazing how far peoiple go to mask who they really are and what they really look like.
Just imagine if we really did value each other’s talents rather than constantly dwelling on the superficial, junior-high stuff.
couldn’t agree with you more. And it already starts at a very young age.
