A sign of the times

…almost a sacrilege.

"Colnago, with our serious approach that has always set us apart from the bicycle manufacturers, are openly stating that thanks to our collaboration with the A-Team, we will be sourcing some mid-range bicycles in Asia. "

I didn’t realize Mr. T was involved with bicycling manufacturing…I pity the fool.

…this can’t really surprise anyone, can it? it’s ALWAYS about money…now, maybe more people can afford them.

I think it’s great.

<< I didn’t realize Mr. T was involved with bicycling manufacturing…I pity the fool. >>

I love it when a plan comes together.

I guess one would either hafta pony up for a high-end Colnago, or you could buy any other mid-range bike from any other company, as they are all made in the same factory (yes, this is hyperbole)

Does it really matter if an underpaid Taiwanese welder, or an underpaid Italian welder (or an underpaid American welder - there are still a few left) is the one welding your frame?

maybe I’m the odd ball out, but while I see it as a shame, it’s also just how business is done today. to me it’s no big deal…nothing is sacred, it’s all about getting whored out and money. I’m surprised it didn’t happen earlier.

Manufacturing in (western) Europe is probably in worse shape that here in the US. With their high costs driven by libral employee benefits, lack of staffing flexibility (ie, hard to lay off people) and high tax rates, they simply are not competitive. Bikes are no different. Actually there are some pretty nice bikes coming out of Asia these days. Hard to admit it I know…but true.

“Colnago’s Asian sourced mid-range complete bicycle models will be available exclusively in European and Asian markets and not North America.”

In other words, Colnago doesn’t see any reason to mess with cash cow USA by selling any mid-range bikes and diluting the brand.
