A run across the USA--updated

A friend of mine, Bruce Johnson, is doing something that for most folks (like me) is pretty unthinkable: a run across the entire USA.

I thought some of you endurance animals might find his endeavor interesting. At this point, he is entirely self-funded, although I think he is seeking help (sponsorship, equip, food, running company, support, etc.) of any kind in any quantity. Here is his website that covers the endeavor:

He has a daily log worth reading.

Pity Bruce didn’t start a little earlier, the run across America finished around September I believe. I know the winner was, former Deca Ironman, Bob Brown from Cornwall, England.

Couple of post-college runners did this a couple years ago, maybe last year. East to west though, into the wind, as it were.

I think he is not looking particularly to ‘race’, just to finish the distance.

I know there are many people that have attempted this type of cross country run, but damn that is a long way to go by yourself. Pretty amazing also that he is partially paralyzed on on his right side. Good luck to him…

Can’t fathom a run across America, but in 2006 we have a team to do the Race Across America (RAAM). I’ll be part of an 8 man team!! Can’t wait!

He is now about 25% across the US. Incredible.

His web page (above in initial post) has a daily log that is pretty entertaining. Check it out.

215 lbs now. I wonder how much he will weigh when he finishes.

I have talked with him. He tells me that already his clothes are getting loose.

.

Well, his daily log (with photos) answers your question: he has lost almost a pound a day.

Anybody that is interested, please check out his daily log, send him an e-mail, whatever…

Bruce is a really good guy and he tells me that sometimes it is a lonely road out there. He has got a long way to go, and all the good wishes he gets from folks keep him going…

At 215 lbs, let’s hope he stops before the 215th day

Yeah, let’s hope.

I had breakfast with this guy http://www.seejohnrun.com/ as he came through our small town about 3 days short of his finish. He was staying at the local bed & breakfast that a friend of mine runs. He had an amazing story to tell, much of which is on his website.
