Well, my past has finally caught up with me. Last week the results of my skin biopsy came back positive (cancerous). I had no fewer than two doctors tell me that the ‘spot’ wasn’t anything to worry about. However my wife, wouldn’t let the issue go until I had it removed and checked. Even the surgeon who removed the spot thought it nothing to worry about. Imagine my surprise when I received the call…
The good news is that all the margins were clear and they suspect no spreading is possible. The moral of the story? Please keep yourself and your children protected from the sun at all times and if you feel the least bit suspicious, have it checked. Skin cancer is something to take very seriously.
Here’s to a lifetime of closely examining every inch of my body on a daily basis. Or perhaps I’ll have my wife do it?
go to a specialist. look up on the internet of examples of cancerous spots. usually they are dark, bumpy with inconsistent edging, and the change colors shapes and can look scabby or brown or black.
seriously, go to a specialist–it’s worth it!!
mark–glad to hear they got it all. wish you the best. and keep looking.
My spot was roughly the size of a nickel but was elongated and had a rough edge. Once again, my spot was seen by more than two doctors all of whom stated that there was nothing wrong with it. So, if you’re not comfortable with what you have, go for the biopsy.
By the way, I’ll be in Madison this weekend for IMMOO. I’ll be a spectator this year after finishing the last two years. I’m going up in support of two friends who are competing. I’ll be the shaved-head guy with tons of sun-block and a ‘zipper’ on his back.
This is one reason I have won my gilligans hat for ever. But, I just bought one of those hats with the material that hangs over the neck a month ago. I figure when I am out doing my first IM, I want to protect my neck and ears without having to worry about sun screen on them. I may continue to look dumb, but I know I will be better protected.
