“A” Race Training sidetracked due to flu and .

. . . lost two days of training. Ran today for the first time in four days and never felt better or faster, probably due to losing some weight. I feel great after my run. Both my spirit and body is renewed.
While sick, every muscle in my body hurt along with my chest and thought about having my heart checked, but today I feel like a new person.
Got me thinking: I usually get bummed/depressed if I lose training days while getting in shape for an “A” race, but my goal this year is to embrace my completed training sessions and forgot about the lost sessions: Start everyday fresh.
Has anyone been successful at achieving this goal? Every training day is a new day!

How far away is the ‘A’ race? Do 2 days really make or break the training?

June 10.

You’re right that two days will not break my training. Sometimes it’s hard to convince my irrational side.

More likely related to the fact that you spent two days sitting around, i.e., recovering (muscular wise, not health wise).

June 10? And you only missed 2 days now? Don’t even sweat it…

I just spent all this week on the road with limited training opportunities. I’m not even worried about the impact on my training for my “A” race (July).

My muscles do feel strong and they don’t hurt. I feel great. Guess I should get sick more often: forced recovery.

Thank you!

Thank you. I must admit I feel refreshed and ready to go again.

Have a good race in July.

Are you doing eagleman? (I am)

I lost 6 weeks of running/biking due to a broken foot from end of December up until this week. Just started getting back into the swing of things this week.

Yes, it’s Eagleman.

Thank you for sharing your experience. How’s your first week back?

you have issues

Explain? I can take it!

I agree, sometimes a few days off shows how fatigued people can be

The fact you’re obsessing and posting about missing 2 days of training 16 weeks from an event?

John

Not really obsessing. Just rejoicing in feeling good and can’t believe I felt great running this morning. Also, using ST as a motiviational tool (Virtual Coach). Is that okay?

I do appreciate the responses received.

Flu and you only missed 2 days?! You got very, very lucky. Or started Tamiflu really fast.

2 days this far out is nothing.

Agreed.

The main point of my message was about not letting days off get me down, which is hard sometimes. My goal for this season is to rejoice in my completed training sessions and forget the lost ones.

I don’t think I’m unusual.

I was forced to miss my A race (ITU AG WC Qual race) this year due to an ear infection that I developed 2 weeks out from the race, come race day I was still on antibotics & not allowed to swim. It hurts a lot to be sitting on the sidelines after 10 months of training… Count yourself lucky it’s only 2 days 16 weeks out…

Doesn’t sound like INFLUENZA. It doesn’t let you off that easy, unless perhaps you get a flu vaccine and got a mild case. Influenza hits suddenly, like a ton of bricks, leaves one exhausted for 2 days, with high fever, increasing cough and muscle pain. It takes weeks to recover fully. Sounds like some other ILI–influenza like illness. One certainly doesn’t feel ‘never better’ after a few days of real Influenza.

Okay, “flu like symptoms.”

I do feel fortunate, and again, I will rejoice in the sessions completed this season and forget the lost sessions.
