A question for those of you worried about consuming protein powder

Do you ever eat bread?

Pasta?

Anything made from flour?

Do you drink beer, or wine?

In what way is protein powder (usually just dried milk powdered, with the whey isolated) any more processed or any less natural than the above?

ZOMG, it comes in a canister so it must be bad for you OMG. Bread comes in a bag and pasta a box. Same difference.

I love me some whey.

My lunch 2-3 times a week is a Peanut Butter Blast protein shake with chocolate soy milk and a banana added. I hope there is nothing wrong with protein powder.

i don’t think there is anything wrong with it, but when it comes up on here, there are 3 or 4 guys who get all hung up on it being unnatural/powder, etc

then it hit me

FLOUR

holy shit!!

haha

=)

Since when do beer and wine contain protein? Tim

Since this is my thread I’m going to be rude and not entertain questions that reveal a complete failure to grasp the point of my thread. Please re read the thread and try again. If something is unclear, please ask a non rhetorical question.

Thanks.

Since when do beer and wine contain protein? Tim

Do you ever eat bread? Yes, unlikely to be made on equipment used to package supplements (steroids)

Pasta? Yes, very unlikely to be made on or with equipment used to produce/package supplements (steroids)

Anything made from flour? Yes, and see above.

Do you drink beer, or wine?
Yes, but I have to admit, I sometimes don’t know if the brewer/vintner was on steroids or other drugs when he mixed up said concotion…

In what way is protein powder (usually just dried milk powdered, with the whey isolated) any more processed or any less natural than the above? It is not what it is, it is where and by whom it is made/packaged/distributed. **** But maybe that is not what you asked for…

Now that prohormones are illegal in the usa I don’t think you need to worry as much about your protein powder being contaminated by steroids =)

a modicum of research could certainly alleviate the concern…a very valid one if you are a tested athlete for sure.

seriously? thats your reasoning? wow. I suppose you dont eat chicken, beef, or drink milk then?

I was a big fan of protein powder and I would primarily use the EAS stuff that I could buy from BJ’s in a five pound bag. About two years ago when I began to pick up the intensity with my runs I would get really bad intestinal pain for days after. It was even difficult to sleep. I slowly changed stuff in my diet and when I took out protein drinks the pain went away after a few days. So now I stay away from protein powder. I still eat power bars and they seem to be fine for my system.

Actually that ban from years ago took care of the prohormones that were being sold back then.

Manufacturers got around that law by producing prohormones with different chemical structures.

The prohormones sold today in actuality are steroids.

But I do use protein powder quite a bit. I don’t really think the whey protein manufacturers also produce steroids.

BUT I do think that some of the packagers, package whey protein as well as the prohormones/steroids.

There is one company which puts prohormones/steroids in their protein powder and advertise that fact.

There are also a couple supplement companies whose products are sold at GNC, Vit Shoppe etc who just recently the govt has found to actually have prohormones/steroids in their products but not listed on the label.

what’s ZOMG stand for?

I suppose you dont eat chicken, beef, or drink milk then?

Oh man don’t you know better than to ask about milk around here.

its an attention grabbing version of OMG

I know, the can of worms has been opened
.

Yes,

Seriously!

I do all of what you have mentioned, but try to limit it somewhat and to buy “organic” products without GH and Roids.

I do complain about me having to live by the rules of a profit- and not health-oriented agricultural system…

but better than just putting on the blinders and trolling with “I suppose you don’t live” statements.

Why worry, if protein powder is your spinach, then eat away, Popeye.

My protein is full of roids and GH. Even though it doesn’t say so on the can, I’m onto these companies. I know what they’re doing and its baaaaaaddddd

ZOMG! very cool I’ll have to make sure and use that one. It’s like Zounds! or something.

I’m not “against” the various powders and concoctions, but I hate swallowing pills, the shakes and smoothies people have had me try are very tasty.

As far as a reason not to use them other than taste?. You mention whey, and that its derived from milk. Others take vitamins, creatine etc. All of these are derived from natural sources. My problem is I think people are missing out on healthy things in food when they distill specific good things out. Vit C is good for you, but eat an orange, you will still get the C and a lot of other goodies, possibly including some that we don’t know about now.

Styrrell

maybe I dont like oranges? weak retort I know. I dont like eating a lot of food at one time. Well I like it, but my body doesn’t like it. I try and get sources of protein in high concentration to the total amount of food consumed. Protein shakes, tuna, grilled chicken are all good sources. However the latter two are getting more expensive every day (they’ve actually shrunk cans of tuna from 6oz to 5oz, bastards). Protein shakes are the most economical method for me.

I also believe that the “laboratory testing” of these products is a good thing. Some people like it, some don’t. I assume that companies put out products for the good, not to harm people. Yes they make a profit in the process (I happen to like capitalism). Steroids are a good thing, for a specific niche of people. Doctors prescribe them everyday. Protein powder is good for ME.
