A little seasonal stupidity - the Toronto Santa Speedo Run

Just wanted to let everyone know about a little charity event I’m doing in Toronto in a few weeks. On December 10th, 2005 , we’re going to give Toronto’s fashionable Yorkville district a very different kind of fashion show.

The 1st annual Toronto Santa Speedo Run is a fun run with the only objective being to raise as much money as possible for Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children while making complete and utter spectacles of ourselves. Since idiocy loves company, we’d love to have you join us.

The idea is to do a brief (pun intended) run through Yorkville, in nothing but Speedo bathing suits, our sneakers, and festive accessories (Santa hats, strategically placed tree ornaments, etc.) The course will be short (less than 3km), and it’s not a race. Think “Underpants Run” at Kona. If you don’t feel like running, but can lend a few hours in the afternoon to volunteer, that’d be gratefully appreciated as well.

For more details, go to www.torontosantaspeedorun.com. Or email us at headsanta@torontospeedosantarun.com.

Not sure I’m going to be here that weekend, but if I am then I’ll come down to volunteer. Sorry, but I cannot subject myself to that much cold, so I won’t be running. It’s for a great cause and I’m sure it’s going to be a hoot.

Thanks, that’d be awesome!

Prizing is starting to roll in. There’s some great stuff – looks like everyone who shows will walk away with something.

I’d almost drive 3 hrs to Toronto to partipate. Note that I did say “almost”.

C’mon, if you do I’ll show you all the good dive shops.

strike that – my favourite dive shop went out of business.

It’s just the HWY 401 hassle driving into the “big smoke”. Otherwise…

Yeah, I can understand that. Particularly if it’s inclement weather.

So the run happened on Saturday. It was a total blast, and everyone who showed was incredibly cool. I had projected we might make $2000 – in the end, we pulled in over $7100.

We even got coverage in the Toronto Star http://torontosantaspeedorun.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/ssr.pdf. And yes, that’s me in the lead.

Thanks to everyone who came out, and to our incredibly generous sponsors: Speedo Canada, Running Free, Fox River Socks, and mynextrac. com.

Hope some ST’ers can join us this year.

That’s hilarious. The scarey part is that this could turn into something really big. Maybe we’ll show next year.

I noticed everybody as wearing red. Did the sponsors supply the speedos/hats?

your link didnt work for me but this did

.

I asked people to bring their own hats, and to wear a red speedo. The first 40 people that showed up to registration got a free Speedo, courtesy of Speedo Canada, and a free pair of socks, courtesy of Fox River.

Grogan is buying his ticket to next year’s event as we speak. I hope you’re ready for him…

sweet dude! I am totally in for next year (I was sicker than death itself this year). Now I just need to look like I belong in a Speedo (as if that is even possible)

Those chicks look good in their speedos, that’s for sure. I like the mismatched gloves.
