A little burned out, so I quit!

For 2 days. Nothing. That’s right 2 whole days. Started a recovery spell and opted for nothing rather than ‘active’ recovery. And topped it off with a hell of a a concert in Hotlanta! First day, legs were cooked after 5 ‘build’ weeks and I was wondering if I had overdone it. Felt like I should have done something on Day 2 but felt really sluggish. Chose not to force a workout in and just enjoy the show. Then BAM! Starry night, mid-70’s, HUGE crowd at an outdoor ampitheatre to watch Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Dave Matthews, Dierks Bentley, and Joe Walsh (yep, that Joe Walsh) bring it! 5 hours of hi-energy, good-times. Joe’s voice was a little shaky, but his guitar is still as good as anyone’s. And midway thru the show, I realized this is what I needed, to get away, mentally and physically for just a little bit. Now, I’m ready to roll. Short taper before a season ending oly and I’m gonna have some fun with it. Then a couple of months of base for next years LP before some down time around the holidays.

Good job, man. I see so many people not taking a break when they needed it. I took about a 4 day break last year when I was ramping up for IMFL and it was completely worth it. I came back more mentally focused and well rested as well.

I just took six weeks off.Got too burnt out training by myself for the Ultra-thing so I quit racing for the rest of the year.I'm going back to Oz to play in the surf for a few months. The rest gave me a chance to volunteer for IMC and UMC and that was a hoot. The Ultramen and women were particularly inspirational and made me want to get my fat lazy butt back training.

Notice how everyone else talks about breaks of a few days and ultra people talk about weeks? I just started back after a few months break. I am going to be doing the timing in Virgina, but I guess you will be playing in the surf. If I can get back on track I may do Levis next year.

I hope you can make it up to Levis next year.Yes I will be in the surf or if I can't pay for my ticket I will be cycling around Nth America dispensing random words of wisdom for food and lodgings.I will be like the cycling version of Kwai Chang Caine from "Kung Fu" only I will be on my MTB pulling my worldly belonging behind me.I will stand up for the old ways of triathlon and fight against the onslaught of modern technology and the evil empire that is sucking the soul from our sport.

“When you can take the timing chip from my hand it will be time for you to leave”

Well grasshopper, if you find yourself in Kentucky we have good food and a roof that doesn’t leak. We are even putting on a triathlon on Sept 22. It is 2.4 Swim/112 bike/26.2 run. WTC frowns on me saying iron distance.
