A-hole of the week for June 6th week: Nominations

As current “Asshole of the Week” I wanted to propose some thoughts for next week’s nominations for consideration by my fellow Slowtwitchers.

In review, my nomination was the result of ongoing and self-serving hawking of goods and services from my store on this forum, Nauseating and tireless self congratulatory dialogue surrounding my persistence on this forum (Did I mention I have over 5000 posts?) and my ongoing general demeanor as a grouch.

So, the bar has been raised. A very high mark has been set.

However, records are made to be broken. So, I propose the following nominees as “Asshole of the Week” for the week of June 6-13, 2004:

  1. Race Director (and officials) who penalized a competitor from this forum at a recent 1/2 Ironman in Florida, thus pulling them out of qualifying for an IMNA spot- then offered to sell that spot back to them.

  2. Shimano. For not having nearly enough bike parts in 2004, inflating prices, controlling supply to manipulate bike manufacturers and genrally being a big bully.

  3. DeSoto/T1 wetsuits. For being out of the most popular size 3 and 4 T1 wetsuits two weeks before the height of the triathlon season. We love DeSoto/T1, but it is hard to love what you can’t get.

  4. Giro. For late and spotty delivery of the Atmos helmet. We ordered them in September, got our order- nearly sold through it in 5 days (about 11 helmets) and have only 6 left. We never did get any silver mediums. Nice.

  5. FSA/Visiontech. Your carbon aero bars will be ready when?

  6. Craft. For their triathlon clothing. See above.

For self-serving purposes only, I gotta go with Giro. I wanted a silver Atmos. The non-selfish (smalll part) of me gives the award to the race director. I would have kicked his ass.

The race director is in a league on his own becasue he had the means to correct his actions. The others are just the victims of other suppliers.

While Shimano, Giro, et. al, are worthy nominees, the RD for IM DISNEY is hands down the winner.

I don’t even know you, Tom (I was in your store but once and you were too busy on the computer to come out and say hello) but this guy’s gotta be a bigger asshole! I may get some disagreement here, I’m sure!

The bar has thus been raised. If Skaggs gets his slot, then the RD will be a reformed asshole.

Race director by a landslide.

The others will try for next weeks asshole slot. I like FSA here for their lack of compact carbon cranks and other goodies. They do put out nice pictures though…

The race director of the Florida Half deserves Asshole of the week for the next year. Not only for the penalty inaccuracies but just as much for accusing Bos’s wife of outside assistance to help deflect his egregious error. And to add insult to injury asking Bos to split the cost of a slot, the slot he rightfully earned. Man that guy is the one of the biggest assholes I have every heard about.

No offense Tom, but that move clearly raises the bar above the few reasons you received in the first asshole of the week award.

Is Desoto “out” as far as selling to distributors or just plain out of all of them? then so much for getting a T1… I just sold my other wetsuit on eBay and hadn’t gotten around to ordering a T1 yet… F… I was pretty sure I was going to be a size 3.

Along the lines of Shimano, we were thinking about ordering some bikes and then reselling the Ultegra components off of them, then selling the frames on eBay… On the other hand, it’s sure alot easier to sell DA when you don’t have Ultegra :slight_smile:

In fairness, I would separate out the head official for the nomination. He did what he could to remedy the situation after the fact via email to the RD, IMNA and the timer.

My money’s on the RD.

Anyone who denies someone a legit Kona slot is bound to be a sure fire asshole on this board.

Agreed, though Tom seems to be wearing his award with pride, so it would be a shame to take it off him :wink:
