People should have to put some kind of small box or pouch on the back of their car that they will put their license, insurance and registration paper work in. The cop pulls the criminal over. Walks up to the back of the car, go ahead and draw the gun, and get all needed paperwork while not needing to approach the windows of the car. When paperwork is removed and checked the criminals can then step out of the car with hands up. Boom! Safer and quicker. Officer has a better chance to react to any threat and the criminals can feel safer.

So anyone will be able to walk up to any car in a parking lot and see who owns the car and where they live. Nothing can possibly go wrong.
Or… They can do what most law abiding people understand. Don’t make any sudden, unpredictable moves. Of course, then they wouldn’t get their 15 minutes of fame from filming it.
Some years ago I stopped and got gas and then went to the store for groceries. As I was leaving in my nice luxury SUV, I was pulled over. I was confused as I had just pulled out of the parking lot and knew I hadn’t done anything wrong. The cop told me that I had left the gas station without paying for the gas. I always use my gas card, but must have been distracted and forgotten to swipe it. I told him. He said that he would follow me to the gas station and not to make any sudden turns.
I wondered why I, a clean cut guy in a nice SUV, would be presumed to be a thief and told not to make any sudden turns. I realized that this guy has to clean up the trash on a daily basis and has learned that anyone can be a threat.
Whether you like it or not - cops of all colors get certain stereotypes reinforced on a regular basis. It could be a young black guy who dresses like a rapper, or a white-trash wearing wife-beater shirts. Profiling is a survival tool. I promise you - if you were in law enforcement you would use it to survive. If you didn’t, you would eventually pay for it.
The catch is a gun can be hidden anywhere and any movement can be someone reaching for a gun. Where is the line?
Too complicated. I’m sure in the future cops will be able to scan someone, ala Terminator, to distinguish friend from foe.

How do you get gas without pre-authorizing a card?
How do you get gas without pre-authorizing a card?
I know - you won’t do that today. This was probably 12-15 years ago at a Chevron station. I think they would look at the car and the person and decide whether to turn on the pump or ask you to come in and pre-pay.
Did he pill a gun on you?
The catch is a gun can be hidden anywhere and any movement can be someone reaching for a gun. Where is the line?
The line is difficult, which is why we (hopefully) choose good people to be police officers and train them well, and then respect that they have a difficult job to do, instead of calling them names and assuming they’re all power-hungry assholes.
Or… They can do what most law abiding people understand. Don’t make any sudden, unpredictable moves. Of course, then they wouldn’t get their 15 minutes of fame from filming it.
Or we could start training officers to be police officers and not a paramilitary operation, even though it’s been 60 years since it’s been this safe to be a cop.
True. You can’t paint with a broad brush and I am guilty of doing that.
This is why I am 100% serious about this idea. The cops don’t trust civilians and civilians don’t trust cops. We have to treat each other like possibly aggressive animals. We have to take steps to limit interactions. Put the paper work where the cop can access it before approaching the passsnger windows of the car. At that point everyone can be ordered out of the car so they won’t be as much as a threat.

This is where you’re wrong and people keep trying to tell you this. The majority of law abiding folks have nothing to fear from cops, and 99.9% of the time interactions with police are safe and don’t involve drawn guns or anything else. The .01% of interactions that go sideways doesn’t mean everyone should suddenly fear police officers.
The .01% is very substantial.
The .01% is very substantial.
Is it? Or is it just that those are the only cases that get splashed onto your TV and computer screens by media outlets looking for sensational news?
So being shot to death isn’t substantial?
Did he pill a gun on you?
I gave him no reason to be concerned for his safety. I’m sure he would have if I had started reaching underneath my seat for some unknown object.

So being shot to death isn’t substantial?
For that .01%, yes. For the other 99.9%, no. I have no fear of a policeman stopping me because when he approaches my car, I’m going to treat him with respect and not make any sudden threatening moves. I’m going to be polite and do what he asks without getting hostile.

Legal abortions and banning lead paint has made police safer than APCs and ARs
