A few questions with "Savageman" Bjorn Andersson

(FYI “Savageman” Bjorn, not to be confused with “Savege-man” aka Rappstar…

That is a good read…funny how he talks about his running and the need for more Bacon

I’m pretty sure it was Jonas Colting that just won the SOS, not Claus. Suprised he did not correct you on that. And suprising he is going back to Clearwater, but as he stated, it will be to do his own thing, just faster than before. No doubt the packs will eat him up on the run, but his personal victory will be what matters to him…

And Bjorn does have the mountain record here still, about 45:17 I believe for the 11.6 miles. I think he said he averaged 450+ watts for the ride, all on a tri bike in the aero position. ANd the ride starts at 3900ft, finishes at about 6900ft, and has 3 downhill sections that add on another 500ft or so…Jordan was in the high 46’s last time he raced it. It would be a great race for the two of them, just have to get their coaches to schedule a mountain tt at race pace the same day, hour, and minute…(-:

those two should duke it out up that hill every day for a week

see if that makes them reach new levels of fitness or new levels of dead

you’re right monty - it was jonas…well spotted.

if they do happen to be at the ranch the same time over the winter (as i think they crossed paths last year)…you HAVE to set it up and stick a video on You tube. Heck you could even sell it to Smeulders to turn into an erg video

Heh…even the marketing folks for Charmichaels would have a hell of time thinking of a title for that one…

“Leg shredder hell”?
“Power Builder, you panty waste”?
“Legs of Thor”?

that would be one hell off a head to head match. wonder how philip graves would fair?

It was of course Jonas who won SOS but somehow I didn’t react to that it said Clas instead in the interview until you pointed it out. I bet I’ll hear about that one from Jonas if he sees it…

Never thought I’d race Clearwater again either btw but a crap season, the option of doing one more race late in the year and a moment of temporary insanity made me take a slot.

It will be fun and you know it!

Yes, but only because I have such a naturally positive attitude…

I hope to never know! In all honesty, Graves is clearly the real deal, and I’d welcome the chance to train with him.

A head to head challenge would be tons of fun. We’d probably need to set some rules, though, otherwise I would definitely try to draft Bjorn on all the downhill sections, which wouldn’t really be fair. Oh wait, who cares about fair!

The best part of any hillclimb attempt is going to Mica’s afterwards. I think Bjorn has some relatives there. Distant cousin’s maybe…

i just love how carlson characterizes graves as a “former road racer” in his kona odds write up. i wonder what category of “former XXX” most of us where at 20 years young?

I agree, normally it's swimmers, gymnasts, and some tennis players that are "former" by age 20. Graves could be former AND future road racer if he wanted.

Hopefully we’ll get Rappstar and Bjorn to go head to head over Big Savage Mountain at SavageMan next year. Bjorn’s got the course record over the climb and has won the Hammer Nutrition Big Savage Climb challenge two years straight now, although Josh Beck was only 4 seconds slower this year. Rappstar has expressed interest in racing SavageMan, and the timed challenge over Big Savage just adds a little race within a race and another chance for some ST approved bragging rights.

It sounds like Big Savage is a bit shorter but similar in profile to monty’s mtn. BSM is 2000 feet in 7 miles, but with 2 substantial downhills thrown in, so a good bit more climbing than that. And it’s not really one steady climb, but really 2 tough miles followed by a few “easy” miles and another 2 tough miles.
