Ah, time to get up. Just time for a short workout.
Got to take time to feed Early ( Early Winter, he’s been with me for 12 years) That’s my wounded knee on the left.
Traffic’s pretty good today, I’ll have time to run
Long Island City, Queens, New York. Not the most scenic place to run but hey, it works. My knee will only allow me to go 2.5 miles a couple times a week.
Now it’s time for work, the morning meeting just isn’t the same since the coffee machine broke!
My chariotte awaits. Got to get moving. Lots to do, we have to finish by the end of the month.
Looks like Robbie needs something to do. I had 18 carpenters on this job. Now it’s just the two of us finishing up.
There it is.After two years, almost finished; a new maintenance facility for Long Island Railroad. I’ll skip the picture of the traffic going home. I don’t want to make you sick.
Then finally, I get to the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The best pool in the country for workouts. It’s beautiful and it’s open from 6am to 10pm every day. Whew! It’s over time for dinner and relaxing with Michelle. Life is Great! (Please excuse the captions. I can’t seem to get them right)
Hey Jim – Nice job. Interesting view of the city. As a Desert inhabitant, about the only view of NYC I get is Law & Order.
The aquatic center looks awesome. Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to use?
Thanks for sharing! I’ve really enjoyed seeing these little snap shots into the different lives our triathlon ohana (family).
First off, these photos are magnificent. This really has given me a flavor of the look and feel of your day. You are a hard working guy. Excellent work. The protrait of your work associate really sets the tone for the difficulty, stress and challenge of your job and the environment in which you do it.
Your editing skills and selection of the first frame are nothing short of brilliant. Stellar. How many movies do you see open this way? You are a natural director/editor. Fantastic.
The protrait of the cat and the perspective lends a bit of “solice”, a sanctuary set against the harsh nature of your work and schedule. Very good. The photo shows exactly why the cat is in your life. Very significant. It contrasts with the portrait of you associate at work, the frenetic depiction of your commute (like a Robert Capa D-Day photo!).
You shot this like a correspondent. Excellent, excellent journalism and artistic interpretation. Very, very high marks.
One of the things these posts have done is shown me how easy it is for me to get my workouts in compared to many people. The pool is literally three minutes away, and I have never had to share a lane, usually I am the only person there–or the Atlantic Ocean is ten minutes away. My run is out my front door, unlocked, water, gu on the back wall on a tree lined sidewalk, five mile loop or out and back whatever distance you want, so water and gu can be taken on. Bike on the trainer (now CT), plenty of room to leave it set up, or out to a lightly traveled 6.5 mile loop with bike lanes. And all in Florida. If it was as hard as these guys have it, I probably wouldn’t do it.
Thanks to all for your kind comments. Sorry it’s taken me a few days to reply, I was up in Woodstock for the weekend. It’s snowing like crazy today. I just stopped at the pool on my way home. It’s beautiful. It was built for the Goodwill Games in 1998 I think. It costs $315 per year for a single or $460 for a couple. There is also a full gym that ads about $90 per year. I usaually get there about 5pm on weekdays and I’m finished when the Masters swim team starts at 6:30pm. There is also a tri team that trains at 8pm but no way am I going for that. I go to bed at 9! We also have a swim team for high school age kids that sends quite a few to college on scholarship. The place is really beautiful. The first time I swam there I felt like I was in the Olympics. I used to swim in a pool where we would have up to 8 in a lane. That’s tough! Here there are rearly even three.
