A couple tubie questions

Just bought my first pair of tubies (ZIPP 909s). They are used and came with tires on them but I need a spare, so I’m going to pull one of the two tires off and use that.

My questions:

  1. Do I need to do anything to the spare or, since it was pre-glued and stretched, that will be fine?
  2. Do I need to clean the rim in any way before mounting a new tire?

Thanks for any advice!

what is the tire? Some newer tires i’ve used Vittoria triathlon and Zipp T. tubulars did not require streching at all. I always clean the rim before putting it on so this way it is easier to maintain than cleaning at the end of thr season (2-3 coats of glue) for eazy cleaning use pure acetone safe on zipp wheels! but make sure you do not touch the acetone to the decals!
this is what Zipp says:

You can use Acetone and sometimes the latex paint remover “Goof-off.” Both seem to work, but you may find that one is better than the other with certain glue types. You can buy one or both at the paint or home store near you.

You can soak or wet the rim either by pouring the Acetone or “Goof-off” onto the area or better yet, soaking a paper or lint-free cloth and bathing the area. (A rough-texture cloth and Acetone or “Goof-off” can be used on the sidewalls to remove spilled glue.) After wetting the area, you can use a popsicle stick (dry or wet) to scrape the area. Sometimes you can shape the popsicle stick to better fit an area either with a knife or sandpaper.

I’m in the same boat, with a used apir of Zipps. It’s been years since I glued, and then I used the red stuff. I wanted to know about the Tufu tape. I did a search, but only found a couple of threads. It sure sounds easier, but is it?
