A couple questions about aero wheels

  1. At what speeds do you receive an aero benefit? If i average between 20-22mph in a race, is that fast enough to warrant buying a set of Zipps, Hed’s etc…

  2. If i way 190lbs, how durible does the wheel have to be? Will i need a stronger wheel to support my weight, or will a generall spoke count suffice?

Thank you…

Everyone benefits from aero wheels. The largest advantage comes from slower riders.

I just did the jump to a TT bike in March, I added a pair of Zipp 343 tubulars in June and saw an immediate benefit above and beyond that of the TT bike. I would say something in the neighborhood of 1 mph. Where I see a big improvement is in head/cross winds it is much easier to keep them at high speed.
