So here are some pictures of my summer playground the cycling here has some nice ocean views and if I can ever figure out how to take pictures and not crash my bike at the same time, I’ll post some of those, too. The problem with taking pictures here is that you can never quite capture just how AWESOME this place is. All of these are from RUN MDI weekend - a run festival that my run club hosts every year, complete with lots of opporunities to run and cycle, and go to the beach, and out to dinner, and race, and do lots more running
above and below - Eagle Lake - this is the must-do island run (aside from the marathon). My FAVORITE thing here is 6 at 6 - six miles, six AM. You can show up and… someone will be there to run with. Usually followed by an ocean ice-bath at the town pier, and tourists trying to figure out why the heck you’re in the water up to your waist with a hat on. It’s this surreal start to a morning, I love it.
not me!!! I don’t have kids yet but this is on the Eagle Lake loop, as are the following:
Now to Seal Harbor Beach:
can you tell I LOVE kids
We also had a track meet on Saturday evening. The balloon arch was neat, except I didn’t notice it while I ran. It said “Carpe Diem Acadia Runners”
I’m the girl on the right… I raced my first mile!!! everyone keeps telling me that my strides are waaaay too long (see second pic)
good view of the mountains in the background
there’s just so much cool stuff here. Cottage Street’s a dream, and Sargent Drive makes every step of the marathon course worth it… there is too much to take pictures of!
p.s. I didn’t take any of these, a friend did, but she put them online in albums so we could share them
That is really nice tigerchik, thanks for sharing. It would be cool to have that kind of a coastline to run along.
I think that I will take some pictures from my main long run route this fall. To me, the view is uncomparable with the fall colors on the trees on the back country roads.
A lot of people have put up pics from where they bike/run and stuff, do a search. It is fun to see where other people train!!!
I felt a little ADD. It was like this ---- oh, the swim reference is that Judson insists he can swim faster than I can, just because he’s in such good shape from running, and we’re swim racing at some point this summer. And my family had dropped me off at the track, then gone to get dinner, and I was wicked excited to have them there becuase they never come to any of my races, but then they were late and missed it anyway I ran a 6:24.5 so I was happy!
don’t be so anxious, it’s kinda like a swim meet
it’s even got a waterfall start
Runners ready
AAAAA
hey this isn’t so bad
Cheer louder!
one thirty one one thirty two one thirty three
zoom zoom
I don’t see my family here yet.
three something or other, what’d he say?
damn it Judson’s going to lap me
I should move so I don’t get run over
Chris posted ‘how to run a mile’ as a daily log once, what were the tricks?
we should swim race in a pool, then I could lap him
Quick feet
my feet are moving quickly, should I take smaller steps?
I wonder if I still have sand on my legs
go faster you’re almost done
ooooh done but I can’t breathe
Brian calls Eagle Lake the ‘center of the known universe.’ When you do those runs you have that feeling, that this is all you ever need. When school starts and I’m east of eden and missing it, I’ll drive here in the morning just to run around that lake. I remember the first time I did that, I got here and Judson and Evan and Brian were there at 6, as if they’d been waiting for me. It’s just… this current for all of us.
enjoy… is this it?
Six a.m.
Well I look like hell
Then I spout the lines
Oh, that you know too well
My heads feelin dizzy
But it suits the shape Im in
I made a proposition
But Im always givin in
But Im lookin in your face
And Im searchin for a reason
For the things I should have said
To you last night

I miss running in the morning on Cape Cod. I grew up in MA and spent my summers in Falmouth. Running in the morning was great. I’ve been telling myself that I don’t miss New England ever since I moved to Denver, but I really, really, really miss running along the beach in the morning with the nice, crisp ocean breeze. I also miss long runs in the fall.
Guess that’s why I’m moving back.
Anyways, thanks for the pictures. They have an olfactory value to them - I feel like I can smell the pine trees.
Tigerchik - nice! Thanks for the postcard BTW; I’ve been in the Acadia National forest/park and it is really nice.
I’m doing a 120 miler this Sat and I’ll try snap some. Heading from Cincy to Rabbit Hash, KY - the only town in the U.S. that elected a DOG as Mayor (seriously)!
So here’s few pics of my backyard and the mountain I run up, around and down. It snows about 10" per year and never stays on the sidewalks or the roads and melts from the trees and grass by noon.
One of the 2 upper viewing decks looking at Thunder Mountain
Our backyard. I trail run around the 2 red rocks just over the tree tops. Thunder Mountain (6300ft) in the background.
Thunder Mountain…I bike around behind it and run across the base of it.
No biking til noon, when the snow melts!! Pic taken from my living room window!
Into T2…Traffic? What traffic?
The pics of Thunder Mountain are taken from my 2nd floor back porch looking over the gardens in the backyard of the Inn.
Thanks for posting. You really have your head together, as do Judson, Brian and Evan. There’s nothing better than being able to enjoy a great ride, run or swim in the company of friends and in the middle of unspoiled nature. When you can enjoy that, you don’t need anything else.
