I had the good fortune to meet azclydesdale over the weekend. He and his family visited the city of Frankenmuth on holiday. While he was aware that I worked in a restraraunt that he would be dining at, he didn’t get around to pming me about his visit. We would not have meet if his waitress hadn’t dropped his dinner.
His waitress, a newer employer, got jostled coming thru the kitchen and ended up dropping the whole tray of food on the floor. Being a young lady in a stressful situation she promptly burst into tears. I had the kitchen restart the meal and then went into the dining room to let the guest know what had happened and the reason for the delay in their meal. Meanwhile the young lady tried to compose herself. I was half way thru getting a beer order when the gentleman at the table looked at me and said “are you jim that posts on slowtwitch?”. It was azclydesdale. Ended up wirth them dining again the following night with me as their waiter, and nothing was dropped. A good time was had by all, but seriously az is one big dude:
It was good to meet Jim, as as he mentioned, it was through a fairly ironic series of events. I guess if Jim had not been yelling at our server for dropping her tray she would not have been in tears… Just kidding, Jim was very helpful to both our server and our table.
Plus, he brought beer, and that is always good. It is because of those beers that I had to hold down that fireplace in the picture. Or use it to hold me up, something like that. Love that German beer, and the Bavarian Inn Dark is one of the best that I have had.
For those who have not been to Frankenmuth, and are within driving distance, it is worth the trip. You can meet Jim, have some great German fare, shop at Bronner’s and walk off all the food hitting the various stores on the main road.
Plus, I believe Tom D’s shop is on the way, though I was not able to stop by and check it out. I will once we move to Ohio next year. Good to meet an STr, hopefully I will many so more in the next few months training for IMAZ.
But perspective is everything. He may be a big dude, and you are normal, or he is normal, and you are a shrump, or somewhere in between. How tall are you?
I don’t think I am normal, but that has more to do with my love of long-distance training than anything else.
I believe that at 6’4" I am on the taller side of the scale. I have always been visible in life, and certainly more so in the transition area of a triathlon. I have no idea how tall Jim is though.
