A bit concerned

So I have my first 1/2IM coming up in less then 3 weeks. A few days ago I came down with a sinus infection that has halted my training. I haven’t trained for over 5 days and counting. This whole sinus infection has got me really worried. I’m wondering if anyone can give some advice or ease my mind. Is everything I’ve worked for getting flushed down the toilet before my eyes? How much with the hurt my overall performance? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

Assuming you get over itin a few days, it is probably the best thing that could have happened to you.

Relax and enjoy your taper.

Don’t worry about it…rest and get better. I got sick 3 weeks out from a half not long ago and got better with about 10 days to go. I started back with short sets and got 1 intense workout (not huge volume) in each discipline and ended up with a PR…go figure.

As has been said on this and about every other “tri” forum: Better to be 10% undertrained than 1% overtrained. Focus on getting/being healthy on race day. Rest as needed; pushing now will only delay your recovery from the sinus infection and not greatly improve your results on race day.

YMMV,

Paul

Thanks for the responses. I’ve definitely been trying to get better and healthy. I know I’d do more harm than good if I tried to continue training in the state I’m in right now. However, as you all know, it’s hard to just sit around when I can see my bike gathering dust in the next room. It’s so frustrating to have this happen so near race day. Thanks again!!
