A better wheelset option?

Right now I’m training and racing on a cheap set of Alex wheels from Supergo - I’d like this to change. My plan is to buy a set of Velocity Spartacus Pros from Trisports ($306 with TNO discount), a CH Aero cover from wheelbuilder.com ($75), and a used Zipp or trispoke front wheel (~$150). So, for a little over $500, I’d have a solid set of training wheels (the Velocity front and my Alex rear) and racing wheels (whatever used front I find with the aero-covered Velocity rear).

My question - is there a better option for ~$500? Just race on the Spartacus wheelset and train on my Alexes? Find a used pair of trispokes to race on and train on my Alexes? What’s the most bang for my buck?

You could just get a used set of Specialized or HED3’s for about $500-$550. They would be very fast and you could even train and race on them. They are nearly bomb proof wheels. I train on HED3’s everyday! I also use them for racing on occasion when I don’t feel like changing bikes or wheels. They are plenty fast enough without a disc. The only disadvantage would be climbing. If you live on the mountains–buy something else.

Yes.
