A ? about tubular tires sealant

Hi,
Might someone tell me if there is a sealant for tubular tires to help prevent flat tires? I know Tufo makes something, but is that specifically for their Tufo tire?

Thank you.

Rappstar (Jordan Rapp) recommends a 50/50 mix of Slime and Stans; 2oz per tyre, IIRC.

Personally the only Tufo product I use is Tufo Rim Cleaner, which is excellent at removing Tufo tape residue from tubs.

I have had good success with the TUFO sealant in other tires. Just make sure they are latex tubes.

Hey Greg,
Forgive my ignorance okay. Is it 2 items I will be buying? Then how do I install it? Thanks for allowing me to bounce questions off you.

Thanks. Is the continental gator ties a latex tire?

No, Continental doesn’t use latex tubes.

I would recommend changing the tires anyway. Those ties have really poor rolling resistance. You can get much more performance (read: free time) out of other tires.

I use a bottle of Stan’s per tire.

training on those gators is ok, but the best thing you could in a race with them is double flat and change both. very slow.

get your LBS to install stans, it is cheap.

if your tires have removable valve cores, something thick like stand can be injected in there, for those without get something more watery like cafe latex. I use the cafe latex just because it’s easier, i keep the stans for the mtb tires mostly

Latex tubes in the tires why? Rolling resistance or some other reason. because sealant will work fine with butyl tubes.

I use the orange in my tubies and tubeless and never had a flat.

new product to the market. Patch and ride.

Yes, two products. Stans is for bike tyres. Slime is for car tyres. Pour them into a third container and stir to mix. There’s a graduated syringe thing that I bought, which looks vaguely medical but came from a bike shop, that I then draw the mix into. Remove the valve core from the tyre and inject it (easer and better to do this once the tyre is mounted). Once injected, reinsert the valve core and spin the wheel.

Clean everything with warm water once done.

I also carry a pre-glued spare tub in a saddle bag. I can squeeze the tub, two CO2s, and adaptor, a couple of tyre levers and some allen keys into the smallest Evoc saddle bag (just) without splitting the zip seams.

If that lot isn’t enough to get me home, then I was never really meant to have gone out in the first place.

Rolling resistance and ride quality.
