8 probably 9 skiers killed in avalanche

8 skiers found dead, 1 still missing after avalanche Castle Peak avalanche near Frog Lake, California: officials - ABC7 San Francisco

Terrible.

yeah this is my old stomping grounds. absolutely horrific :broken_heart:

I don’t know the exact timing of when they left on their trip vs. how well this storm was forecast, but you better believe this case will be studied for decades.

here’s a link to the avalanche summary from the Sierra Avalanche Center:

https://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/observations#/view/avalanches/83ba330a-5eb4-446e-95b0-495c26faf06b

3 guides and 6 clients killed, plus one not yet found. Most were women/mothers of children on the ski team at Sugar Bowl (Sugar Bowl Academy), so all fairly local. Very sad.

Good article from interviews of two survivors.

(Sorry if it’s being a paywall. There are ways to read it. IYKYK)

Thanks for posting this.

And if you don’t know?

You are SOL. (the cool crowd does not explain how to be part of the cool crowd).

*I’m firmly in the non-cool crowd.
