700 x 19 or 22? for tubulars - ON TOPIC!

about to order some new tubulars…my first pair…

for iron distance racing - are the 700x19 too rigid for the distance…should i go for the 700x22mm

i thought i remember Tom D. saying his Guru used 700x22 on his 404’s for IMNZ…and i thought he said he did it for more comfortable riding…?

thanks

no advice? this is actually on topic, come on!

That’s the problem, it’s on topic.

Let me help you out: What tires do atheists ride, and why are they going to Hell because of it? Does Bush ride 19s or 22s, and did that have anything to do with the war in Iraq? Will Kerry ever be able to commit to just one tire size, or will he forever waffle between the two?

If you insist on keeping it slightly on-topic, but still want a response, you could ask this way: Which tire size works best with Power Cranks, 19 or 22? Is it true that Rotor Cranks make you so fast it doesn’t matter if you even *have *tires on the wheels?

I think its more a matter of personal preference and the course but I wouldn’t ride 19s in an Ironman. Partly because of the ride but mostly because I find them twitchy.

I run 19’s. For best aerodynamics, tire width should be about the same as rim width. You don’t have to worry about pinch flats which means it is possible to run them at lower pressure for more comfort. I usually pump them up pretty high, though, as I have a Softride

22 are more comfortable to ride and less likely to puncture. The aeroness is minimal if any difference unless your Lance.

THANKS EVERYONE…I haven’t lost complete hope in this forum.

22mm for Ironman distance. Otherwise your fillings will rattle loose!

I use size 19 Tufo S3 lite 650 tubulars on my Hed3’s and Renn disc and find them quite comfortable for iron-distance rides. The bike is a Kestrel KM40. I also run them at higher pressures (150-160 lbs/sq. in.)than some of the other posters. I weigh about 155 in race shape and this is about where Tufo suggested that I start with pressures and adjust up or down as I like. I’m thinking of trying out the larger ones when these wear down some. No complaints on the 19’s however because of the small contact area with the pavement be aware that they may not stop as quickly or handle just like your training clincher 23’s.

Richard

I run a 19 on the front and a 22 on the back. Running Tufos.

I don’t have any comfort problems and I did Wildflower Half this year and those roads are rough!

What kind of wheels are you putting them on? I put them on a pair of HED Stingers and have a feeling the wheels are very forgiving as compared to a disk or H3.
