Herbert- I suspect the timing is messed up. Looking over the results there are some curious times ( and ages). I have 2 friends doing the race and will find out more when/if they call.
Mike
It is now updated, including the deletion of previous 4th place finisher Imke Schirsch who got dq’d for apparently wearing her bib number under her wetsuit.

There is a rule against this? I can’t think of many wetsuit legal triathlons where I haven’t done this along with many other racers.
Yep, since 2 or three years. If you race in Europe you better pay attention at the pre-race meetings. They got some different rules for the bike too (bridge for the extensions and shifter placement). A bare torso gets you a D.Q. on the spot, too.
I got a call from a buddy who did this first time event. Said the race was up and above the 70.3 standards.
Also said the bike was tough, the run was scenic and the the total setting in Wiesbaden was posh…
He also said he didn’t lose too much money gambling at the Casino
B.T.W.: No adverse findings among the Pros from drug testing.
Hey Herbert. Who is Stephane Bignet. If he is putting the boots to Timo Bracht by 14 minutes we have to put this dude on the radar screen. Sounds like there is some serious talent in those legs!
A friend of ours just did the race too and said she will be back because it was the best organized race she’s ever done. The enitre bike course was closed to all traffic !! The volenteers were simply fantastic and plentiful too. She said all the towns they rode through were full of locals cheering everyone on, and the scenery was stunning.
As Herbert said, Stephan did the olympics in Sydney for France. His younger brother also won a world cup 3 or 4 years ago but failed to qualify for Athens.
Stephan is an uber-swimmer (usually top 3 out of the water in ITU races), very good biker and average runner (for ITU, which means great runner anyway).
He’s now doing very well over the half-iron distance, but hasn’t really stepped up to Ironman. Don’t know if he will or if he will again try to qualify for the Olympics in Beijing.
Hey, who cares if he steps up to Ironman if he can race like that over 70.3. Maybe he will show up at Clearwater…so when he raced for France at Sydney…he would have been the “slow” team member, with Olivier Marceau hammering away from the peleton up front and pulling into T2 with 90 second buffer on the then “unknown” Simon Whitfield group.
In hindsight, Marceau’s attack needed to be much earlier. He still ran the first 5K in sub 16 minute pace and it was only slightly after that when Whitfield and Vukovic caught him. I suppose Marceau was luckier at 2000 ITU World’s when I believe the course was not measured correctly and it was in the range of 8K?
He did a second at IMC 2005 and backed it up with a top 10 in Kona the same year…but I thought there was a positive test between then and now? Or am I confused with someone else?

Speaking of Vukovic, what is the latest on him?
I think it was only an 8k for the womans race.
Vukovic raced IM Lanza this year. Had problems with his seatpost but came through on the run. I don’t know whether that means he got a IMH slot though.
He had a few quite seasons and I cannot remember why… illness or something else.
This race was absolutely fantastic. The bike course had more than 1500m altitude difference. The run was also really scenic 3 loop course. The race was amazingly well organised and I highly recommend this race for anyone who wants a challenging 70.3 race!
