Does anyone know if the course is shorter than advertised? the finishing times just seem ridiculously fast! Even for a flat course.
i just posted on the same subject! has to be looking at both pro splits and age groupers i know are racing.
very disappointing to me.
Is Timberman short??
Bjorn went sub 4 there, 2:07 on the bike on a hillier course than the dead-flat Clearwater course.
I think you are mistaken.
It’s a world championship…chances of a screwed up distance are remote…
Bike course pancake flat + weather conditions almost perfect = ripp’n good times
My brother just went through the bike course in 2:15…his fastest prior to today was 2:25
Could be short but don’t underestimate just how fast these guys are on a fast course. Splits look reasonable to me. These are all world class short and long course racers.
Mark
why would you think it’s short? because of a fast bike? stadler avg 26mph in kona at 2x the distance and a much harder course.
I didn’t go out to the course this morning, due to working late last night, but today’s conditions were ideal for fast times. Not a hint of wind, cool but not cold. While I can’t rule out the course being off, the times seem right on for the conditions and the elite nature of the field.
i thought the bike course times were fast also. i know the pros can ride it that fast but some of the age groupers i know had huge PR’s. if it is accurate, KUDOS to them. great times and race. i guess we can wait to hear from some of the finishers and what they think. a good course and great conditions can make for fast(er) times.
a friend of mine had a huge pr, he went 4:54 today.

Bad assumption, just ask the Aussies.
It’s the World Championships. Which on this day featured:
Smooth swim w/ lotsa great swimmers to draft.
Flat course, no wind, lots of “unavoidable” drafting.
Flat run, cool temps, lots of competition due to a strong field.
=
Lotsa PR’s
Or
The course was short.
Not.
what happens if the course is short?
do they do anything about that?
the course was GPS’ed at 59.92 miles. Tons of drafting out there–for those who did it I estimate about 7-9% improvement. This would be in the AG men and women. Men pros no difference. You had to want to not draft to avoid it. I did and paid the penalty. I had 1 woman beat me at Eagleman (Badman) and 3 at IMFL and I had 70+ at htis race…to each his own!@

the course was GPS’ed at 59.92 miles. …
So the bike was 3 miles long?
When in doubt…I usually jump on Motionbased and search. Appears accurate at 56.10 and 56.05 (although depends when they hit start and whether they were using error correction)

I got 90.527km on my SRM.
gmap-pedometer had it as 56.1 miles
thats splitting hairs since they probably rolled my bike back to the rack and my srm started when I ran out w/ it.
my ergomo had 39 miles. the speed pickup was not working for the first 45 minutes or so. what might have caused that? the overnight dew?
btw, two days into the run focus, hows yours going?
well, I have the choc chip cookie bake off yestreday and today. Ate 2 full tubes of cookies and I wondered why I felt like puking?
ran with the wife for 16min yestreday and did a splash n dash today. could not get my freaking wetsuit off since it is one I never wear. Went from 4th OV to ~ 10th OV leaving transition. But had a good 4k run. ran myself from ~10th to 3rd OV.
Tomorrow starts it back up with 11k in the morning.
