70,3 syracuse

Hi,

Being a bit too late registering, I missed out at 70.3 tremblant. So I decided to register for the 70.3 same weekend at Syracuse Ny.

Else than the suggested Crown Plaza, is there something else not to far away from actual race start?

There are several hotels in the same area as the Crown, all within walking distance of lots of things including packet pickup and the expo.

None of them are anywhere near the race start. The start is out of town about 10 miles in a park. You don’t go near the town during the race.

Sadly, yes. There is only one road into and out of the park. It gets backed up for miles before the start. Once the last wave hits the road, it’s pretty open until the run. Then, it’s tough to get into and out of the park again since the run course crosses the vehicle exit. The park is a pretty good place to be. I saw lots of kids there last year who spent pretty much the whole day on site and didn’t seem bored.

Conclusions:

  1. The athletes should get there ridiculously early as compared to the start time.
  2. Anyone else coming later needs to plan on delays until the last swimmers are on the bikes.
  3. Don’t expect to leave early.(If there are any problems with traffic during the exodus, they get multiplied.)

I got there 2 hours before the start and had no issues, but once you get closer to start time it’s a wreck trying to get in. My friends came to watch and barely saw the start after sitting in line waiting to get into the lot(field). We stayed at the doubletree inn in east syracuse and it was a 20 min ride to the event site. The hotel was nice, had a heated indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna etc.

Have fun, it’s a challenging course
