70.3 qualifiers by race

Folks,

I’m researching what the likely qualification time for Mt Tremblant is at my chosen qualification race, Aix en Provence 70.3.

Does anyone know where you can find a list of qualifiers for Vegas by race, or where the (somewhat unhelpfully formatted) 70.3 races results in the IM websites list the qualifiers? Plenty of info around ironman - I didn’t find a single site doing similar analysis for 70.3.

Tried clicking around for an hour with no luck - any pointers appreciated.

Cheers

Mark.

Well, any 70.3 race on the IM website would be a qualifying race. Look at the last year results for your age group, look at the time for 3 rd place and know that’s what you have to beat to safely qualify. In theory.

Not really useful - as it turns out there were 6 slots allocated to my AG in 2013.
It’s also useful to know the average roll-down as a best case scenario.

I’ve since figured out the answer to my question but only by a laborious by-hand comparison of qualifiers in the World champ start-list and the top 20 in my AG at Provence.

Surely someone, somewhere has a list of 70.3 qualifiers by AG, finish position, time and race to make this stuff easier… anyone?
If someone in the WTC can send me the raw data I can make sure it gets put on a site where folk can see it.

Cheers

Slots are allotted according to how many participants are starting in the respective ag, so from year to year the actual allotted slots for each ag in each race is going to fluctuate. If you want to qualify, train your ass off and aim for 3rd place in your ag. Roll downs will happen in races more towards then of the qualifying season and occur more in the ladies side than the men’s. I’ve never seen a list of roll downs for all races on a specific site but if you ask post race what the roll downs were someone who raced will have the answer.

Good luck getting anything from WTC. I sent an e-mail a few months ago & asked if they could update “athlete tracker” so that you could search on city & state. Would like to be able to find out who’s racing (I sure don’t know everyone that lives here or nearby (Charlotte, NC for me). After asking a 2nd time, WTC gave me a lame excuse that they didn’t want people to somehow get access to their database & addresses, etc. If you in athlete tracker & click on a particular person, it will bring up their city & state. You just can’t search on it to bring up a list of who lives in a particular place. Their other excuse was that they hired someone to create their website & athlete tracker & they would have to get them to make the change. In other words, they don’t want to pay for making the change.

I also asked about having the same search feature for participant lists. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could find out who lives near you that is also doing a 70.3 or IM. You might be able to train together or travel together to the race. If anyone remembers the participant lists & results for IM NA races, it was great. You had the option to select what results you wanted (splits, transitions, Kona qualifier).

I don’t know how much work it would take or how much it would cost, but it seems like it would be a fairly simple change to the software to me.

I don’t think rolldown data will be too useful. At Muskoka 70.3 there was almost no rolldown this year, where as in past years a lot of AG’s had spots slide, sometimes considerably. Tremblant is drivable from the northeast, Vegas wasn’t, so it seems like more people were claiming spots.

Im so stoked! Although it was roll down, and as 25th on my age group, I took the spot to go to the 70.3 World Champs in Canada. Race Report here! http://www.tritalk.co.uk/forums/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I’d say probably mostly white people.

You should look at the RunTri.com website. I don’t think he has roll-down data, but he’s got the best stats I’ve seen. Also, not sure how much detail you’ll get. Although, I’ve emailed him in the past and got a quick response.

What do you think the time is that you needed to qualify?

For men, 35-39, I did a 4:50 in a 6km run, ride run duathlon to qualify. The bike course was an absolute nightmare in epic rain, high winds, and 2 climbs that involved very technical(ie, slow!) descents…2:31 bike split for me in part due to 10 minutes at the side of the road sorting out the battle between my Rotor QXL and chain!

So many variables for calculating a qualifying time…the athletes, the course, and the conditions on the day. Can’t even compare times year to year on the same course, never mind across courses. Train you ass off…and if you can’t do a 70.3 at pretty much all out effort all of the time…it’s going to be very hard to be in the top 10 as people just get stronger and stronger in tri! 70.3…love this distance…I don’t think much about pacing…I just go hard all the way to the end…whereas Ironman, I have to use my brain and pace myself…and I’m too much of a simpleton to really enjoy that! hahahah(but I’m learning to !)

The only sure thing is that the top finishers in any age group will be offered slots for as many slots that are offered for that age group. After that its an out right crap shoot as to who gets what. The one thing that’s sure about getting a slot on the roll down is that you have to be there and have to have the ability to pay right then and there in the form of payment they they will accept. If you are trying to get a slot be sure to read the fine print regarding payment, because if you don’t have the right form of money, no amount of speed will get you in. Tim

It is an experience in frustration but you can find qualifiers through last year’s 70.3 and Kona WC’s here: www.onlineraceresults.com

You can search by 70.3 or Nevada, Hawaii, etc. Open the race results and then select All race results. Through 2012 the system used to actually work and clicking the printer icon would provide a finisher’s certificate for where an individual qualified. The finisher’s certificate functionality quit working last year. And the individual search is hit or miss now too.

I couldn’t find a listing for Mt. Tremblant yet.
