70.3 Monaco and Macca

Anyone know for sure what happened to Macca? I read in a french forum that his bike was stolen from T1 the night before the race… I guess it might be true as he was apparently
riding a Look bike…

Geez, he has had more bikes stolen than anyone I know.

Someone stole themselves a nice bike that they wont be able to go out and ride for some time. Or at least until the new transition is publically availible.

yes, but I think it was a Spezialized S-works road bike he was supposed to ride at Monaco… At least that’s what he was riding the week before in Boulder and Monaco is a hilly course.

Macca wasn’t the only one with such a bad luck. Also Kai Hundertmark and Paul Ameys bikes were stolen with about 10 other athletes. Macca and Kai DNFd after the bike (they rode with borrowed bikes) but Amey went for a good performance fininshing 2nd with a borrowed bike.

I was wondering what happened to Macca…
looking at ironmanlive it seems that Hundertmarck finished 20th (?); just ahead of Leder; also Petr Vabrousek was there; he raced again! that’s crazy. how many ironman / 70.3 has he done this year??

Yeah, Chris rode a Specialized Tarmac SL that we built up for him at Colorado Multisport the week before he left for Monaco. I was on at least one ride with him when he was on the new bike before he left. That would be a shame to go all that way only to have your bike stolen before racing on it.

I just got back from Monaco and they stole about 14 athletes bike during the night. There was a guard with a dog so the whole thing seems very strange. they went after some of the best bikes there. Race people were very embarrassed by the whole thing. There seems to be some gang that infiltrates races/gatherings/whatever, scopes it out, then steals things. I’ve never heard of this but the Midi is a little different then the Savoie where they worry more about wolves, cows and sheep.

I think it makes sense to bring a big fat lock to any race that requires you to rack your bike the night before. Lock it to the bike rack etc.

great idea! and hook your helmet in too.
