70.3 dress code

Ok, I have yet another question about my first 70.3 and first wetsuit legal race in a couple of weeks. I have a longjohn, sleeveless wetsuit. Do you wear your tri jersey under your suit to save some changing time in transition?

Do you wear your tri jersey under your suit to save some changing time in transition?

The quick answer to this is, Yes. However, be sure that this will work and that by wearing the tri racing top under the wetsuit that you will not have any comfort/chaffing issues to deal with. If it’s going to be cold on the bike, you may want to put something dry on quickly in T1 and not wear a wet tri race top. Problem is, their are so few full zip race tops available( Hello apparel makers!!). Nothing that you have to pull on over your head will go on easily or fast when you are wet/damp/cold from the swim.

Thanks for your input.

Which 70.3 are you doing? Some of the early season races you may want armwarmers, so you’ll be adding clothing anyway, others a sleeveless top is fine all day.

I’m doing the New Orleans 70.3. It’s already in the 80’s down here, so I think I’ll be fine on the bike and run. Thanks for suggestion though.

Definitly wear your sleeveless on the swim. I swam in the Lake friday and was getting hot in my full suit. The water temp was 67 degrees. Should be a little bit warmer for the race. As far as the bike and run it was a little chilly this morning but we did just have a cool front come through. By April 5th it should be a tad bit warmer. It was also extremely windy out on the course today.

Dangit, is it really that warm already? All i have is a full… and i got out in the reservoir here in jackson and it was pretty comfy.

.

Wear your race stuff under your wetsuit.

Wear the same race stuff for the whole race for HIM and below.

IMO.

I’d wear the full regardless, a little warmth isn’t necessarily a bad thing and you get more out of a full wetusit, but if you don’t want to wear it I’ve got a sleeveless I’ll sell you, pm me for an offer

Just to stay on track with the 70.3 distance races, who out there has competed in the Austin 70.3? Is that a fun race as far as the course, etc?

Austin is a well run race. I heard people from out of town comment on how nice they thought it was.

I live in the Austin area and prefer riding in other parts of town but the logistics of putting on a 70.3 are challenging in those areas.

Thanks for the info. I’m debating between the Austin and the Augusta 70.3.

Love the Austin race and it is a real possibility for 2009. Will see how Buffalo Springs goes first.

Swim: cool water, but I didn’t wear a wetsuit even through it was wetsuit legal. Wore my PointZero.
Bike: rollers with a good climb at the end that makes you want to cry a little
Run: 1/2 on pavement, 1/2 on dirt. The hill that makes you want to cry a little on the bike is on the run course too, next to it, on dirt. you 2 it twice. They call it quadzilla.

Transition area is a field but was mostly dirt this year, bring an extra towel. It didn’t bother me but well, lets just say you may not want to wipe down with that same towel when done.

Only thing I had a hard time with was the burrito for post race food…that tired made it very hard to chew!!! But it was yummy!!

How is the Buffalo Springs triathlon?

Not done it yet…doing it this year for the 1st time. 2 of my team-mates have done it and both love it. I’m gonna grill them on course info! I know it will be hot…but that is Texas in the summer…it is also Alabama in the summer!

I know Buffalo Springs is wetsuit legal. I wonder if Augusta and Austin 70.3 races will be wetsuit legal.

Austin was but I was fine in the PointZero.

My hunch at Augusta… not doing that one, but have some friends who are… it is the DEEP south in late September. It still feels like August in September…but my guess is probably not wetsuit legal…if it is, it won’t be by much…

Austin was my 3rd 1/2 distance race. It was by far the best that I’ve ever done, except for the fact that the transition zone was virtually a desert. That may be different this year.
