so how long before every IM has a companion 70.3? Muskoka, MT, Eagleman/IMMD, Tahoe, Boulder, and now Chatt. 70.3 Placid in June would be sweet.

Seems to be the trend. Also seems like a way to push away the competition trying to get a foot in the door. Rev 3 Knoxville is on the same day and only a couple hours away. LP 70.3 would be good competition versus Quassy.
But hey when a race sells out so fast, why not give more product? Simple economics.
Was hoping it was going to be Hilton Head. Plus, Choo 70.3 is 5/17…Raleigh is 5/31. Thought they me be spaced out enough to do both of them. It does look like they took most of the hills out of the run course though. Half way up the hill on Barton and then turn around. Cool town, fast swim (lets start that argument again), one loop of the bike course sort of. Wonder how long the bike leg will be?

That’s 2 weeks, plenty of recovery to make both A races on a stretched taper, then a transition, then build for the Fall IM.

Those were the two things that stood out to me as well. May 17th is also the same weekend as Challenge Knoxville (a mere 110 miles away). Coincidence? I think NOT!
No Hills on the run: Boo

here is a good article of how to execute that http://www.endurancecorner.com/Alan_Couzens/extend_peak

I have not done two that close together…perhaps time to try.
Anyone notice that it appears a small part of the swim will be upstream?
I’m guessing they’ll change a section of the full to upstream.
I won’t be changing the IRONMAN Chattanooga swim. It will stay the same as it was this year. TVA got a little carried away with flow which we will again work together on but that will be the only change.
Brian
Looks like swim is starting on the opposite of the river and has a barge start. That should be an interesting start shuttling everyone to the opposite side.

You still RD for Raleigh too Brian?
Glad to see the bike course still heading south. ![]()
Will the bike be 58 miles?
In all seriousness… I’m definitely in for this one. Tried booking one of the Marriott hotels nearby and Marriott is apparently savvy to the race date and you can’t book rooms for that weekend.
very nice!!!

Can you or anyone compare the two courses? What are the differences between the swims? What are the road surfaces like? Are roads closed for the races? Will one discourage drafting more than the other? Does either course create higher risk of accident? Which run is more scenic?
This is definitely not good news for Memphis in May…
Declining #'s lately, now in direct competition with a 70.3?
Actually, as I think about it, a 70.3 LP makes no sense unless WTC dumps syracuse. Most IMs are probably pretty matched up with a 70.3 that is relatively close and earlier in the year. Pretty smart strategy. I would guess almost everyone within driving distance of Chattanooga who is doing the full will sign up for this race. Built in demand.
The map of WTC events in North America is sure getting crowded.

Forgot about Syracuse 70.3 as well. yes the strategy works well, especially since when you run a 70.3 on the same course as a 140.6 a lot of the planning and logistics have already been sorted through.
