As lame as this telecast may or maynot turn out to be, Phil Ligget absolutley provides absolute credibility to the telecast.
Did they honestly talk about the highest elevation on a run course in florida??
Christ, ya think VS and NBC are in cahoots in terms of commercials??
they redid the Ricky Bobby segment from Kona
I mean Ricky James
switched to VS for Paris-Roubaix coverage

No need to be an ass, he’s gone through more then 99.999 percent of the people on this forum. But yeah they could do more racing then the EXACT same coverage as Ironman Hawaii
Isn’t this the exact same stuff they had on Brian Boyle for a Kona broadcast too?
i’m not being an ass, merely pointing out NBC rerunning a previous segment.
I feel sorry for the kid but out of all the time that triathlon stuff is on TV
there is no need to recap his story
as a viewer, i would like to see something new
and yes, all paraplegics have been thru more than 99.9% of us

I think NBC did a great job creating interest/drama in one of the world’s worst spectator sports.
Does anyone know if there will be a re-run??
It was sorta odd at my house. We had the Paris-R race on one TV and 70.3 on another with Phill Liggets voice coming from both rooms. He sure was more animated during the Paris-R coverage.
Does anyone know if there will be a re-run??
Try Hulu in a couple of days.
You must have been watching the Masters like the rest of the country?!
Myself included.
Say what you want, but I thought the coverage of both the women’s pro race and the men’s pro race were better and more balanced in the amount of coverage each received than anything I have seen outside of ITU.
That said, I could have done with a bit less of the Ricky James - Brian Boyle repetition, although I did learn something new about the Hoyts! (992 events and counting) I do wish he would lose that rug though.
I was a age grouper in this event and I saw the NBC show yesterday. If all I knew about this event was what they showed on TV, I would have gotten the impression that there were just a hand full of male and female pros along with a few physically hadicaped folks who did this. In fact they gave virtually no air time to the 90% plus bunch of people out there who also train hard, qualtify for this event and spend a bunch of money to be part of it. I think there was to much air time given to Kona footage and motorcycle raceing (and crashing). I would like to see the air time split into thirds: the pros that win, the special interest people with a story to tell, and the age groupers who are the backbone of this sport. I would also like to see my name on the Kona lottery list at the end of the show (third time in the lottery without getting picked). However I did get picked for and have registered for the Escape from Alcratz Tri in June. I have noticed from recent posts that Escape from Alcratz Tri went through a third lottery cycle (only two were planed). This probably happened because people got picked, but backed out of registering because of the cost ($400 registration) plus travel costs. Maybe there will be a second Kona lottery in a month or so if they don’t get enough takers on the first 200 picked. Tim
I wonder if they can show a triathlon without music constantly being played? It would be nice to actually hear the sounds of racing and/or a broadcaster talking about the athletes.
I actually turned in to watch but was afraid I would miss parts of the Masters so quickly turned back.
I realized that if I would far rather watch golf, triathlon really is a participation sport ![]()
It is excruciating to watch triathlons on television.
after I saw that same Foster Grant glasses commercial 24 times in the first hour of the program, I had to wear earplugs during the commercials.
I guess you’d have to ask what you think would be gained by showing age groupers?
Theres no doubt that there are a ton of fast, dedicated age groupers who it is a privallege to train with and race against, but apart from those people and their friends and family, who really cares? That would get maybe 500,000 people to watch on a good day. That won’t sell advertising, which is what this is all about. It’s mostly the same in the triathlon magazines.
So while there may have been a lame pro race, where there wasn’t much competition and a couple of pro’s ran away with an easy result* and the age group competition was fierce, down to the wire and fought over by numerous athletes across the age groups, it just won’t get the advertisors to sign-up.
No coincidence that many of yesterdays commercials were for Timex, and Richie Cunningham was 3rd and featured running in, err, Timex kit. Now, you go feature some locally sponsored age grouper who just happens to have a fantastic race, and picked up some travel money and is sponsored by his dad who runs the local chevy dealership, not so good when Ford put all that money in.
- Not that I’m saying that the 70.3 worlds was like that, just using it as an example…

I would LOVE to see race coverage of the top 5 or 10 men and women in each age group, but think about how many cameras, motorbikes, time, planning, etc that would take. You think it’s crowded out there, now?
I for one could do with a lot less of the forced inspirational stories and accompanying music. Sosumi, but I’ve had enough of my heart strings being tugged by this or that amazing-recovery-from-the-brink-of-death-and-subsequently-taking-up-triathlon. I think that it’s great that these people do it, and they deserve to be covered, but personally I’m beyond saturation.
Any chance this will ever be re-run? Doesn’t universal sports usual have repeats of nbc sporting events? I totally spaced on setting the DVR.
Not in the upcoming week. I just checked; all they have is Kona repeats and Ironman NZ which is on 9pm, Wednesday.
