70.3 - According to commentary, who is riding without front brakes?

I missed the name, but did I hear correctly that one of the pros had removed their front brakes in order to cut down on wind resistance? If so, then what rules apply at 70.3? USAT rules specifically say that a functioning brake is required on each wheel (USAT 5.11.j). And, I believe the USAT rules were pretty much copied word for word for WTC races…

IT’s probably someone who has the front brake mounted behind the fork insted of in front. Where did you see/hear it mentioned?

It was mentioned on the 70.3 commentary and as I recall they even commented further that the athlete in question had opted NOT to put it behind the fork but had removed the front brake entirely. Additionally, the question was raised in the broadcast that they were not sure that this was legal (it is not…)…

That would be Terenzo Bozzone.

He’s in the lead right now.

Well, according to at least the USAT rules: “Any participant using a nonconforming bicycle or otherwise violating this Section (5.11 Bicycle Specifications) shall be disqualified.”
.

In that case, that would be illegal then.

Well, if he goes on to win (or place) it will be interesting to see if any of the officials pick up on this.

There are pictures in Johnnyo’s bike thread of the set up… I wonder how he made it through transition?

Check out jonno’s pics - some up close shots of the brakeless like.
As a sidenote: new drinking game: every time during the coverage Kevin M says “amazing” you drink…

Interesting that he turned up late after bike check in closed had a towel over the bars and fork. Anyone more cynical would have said he had something to hide, but there is nothing there, ergo nothing to hide?

“Those BOB strollers look amazing.”

At the turnaround

RACETIME: 01:41

At the bike turnaround, we had Terenzo Bozzone, Craig Alexander, Richie Cunningham, and Simon Lessing, all within ten seconds of each other. At thirty seconds back we had a group consisting of Chris Lieto, Greg Krause, Michael Simpson, and Jordan Rapp

GOOOOOO RAPPSTAR!!!

he said it again…

What’s amazing to me is…

I love you man. I really love you man.

That is “amazing”
.

I’m amazed at the amazement of his amazingness.

I’m glad they finally got away from:

“and now to the short guy”

“back to the ugly guy”

“you’re short”

“you’re ugly”

That was some amazing professional commentary earlier.

Terenzo Bozzone retakes the lead!

RACETIME: 02:05

Terenzo Bozzone (#31) is in the lead at mile 40, although with only seconds separating the first and the fifth, its an amazingly close race. Simon Lessing is in second, Craig Alexander (#42), Brian Lavelle (#9), Chris Lieto (#44), and Richie Cunningham (#26) complete the pack.

An amazingly close race. Amazing in it’s amazingness for sure.

Even more amazing, Simon Lessing has lost his ALL CAPS deification.
