I ride a Felt B2. My GF rides an old Litespeed Tachyon with 650s. I was thinking of going old school and running one of her 650 HED 3s up front for my next race. Should get me more aero. Thoughts?
It can definitely be done. Just be careful pedaling through sharp turns.

Let us know how that works for you.

is it legal?
I’m assuming you want to put a 650 front wheel on a 700C bike.
That would drop the front low enough to skip a pedal on the ground on any type of turn. You would also lose your front brake since it wouldn’t reach the wheel.
I wouldn’t do it.

Pussy.
Do you have a dental plan?
Go big, ride this.

I might seriously ride my fixie in a sprint this weekend.

The old school bikes were designed around the 650 front wheel. The biggest issue is going to be the brake. I’m thinking that you would have to swap out the fork unless there is some freaky super long reach caliper. The 650 fork will also change the handling as you will have effectively made both seat and head tube angles steeper. I’m thinking that any aero gains may be negated by handling issues.
Spacers at the bottom of the headtube?
I would not be on a bike like that. But by all means…someone please try in and let us know how it works out.
Provide picts too.

newbie…
I’m going to have to put a 650 on the front of my 700 road bike and have a look at it again. I looked at that a few years ago just playing around.
