650 + Trainer. What to use?

Brought my 650 bike in from the cold for some trainer riding. One problem - my current mag trainer won’t reach to contact the tire, even adjusted all the way up. Any advice on which trainers do/don’t work?

I’m currently using my “spare” rim-drive trainer, but it’s less than ideal. I’d never noticed this problem before because I’d used my 700c road bike on the trainer.

Have you tried putting a 700c wheel on your 650c frame? That’s what I did last winter. I had to remove the rear brake to get clearance, but I didn’t want to mess with swapping my 650c tire (I use an el-cheapo tire when I’m on the trainer, then swap back when I start riding outside in the spring).

My Kurt Kinetic works well.

Get a set of rollers. Cheap ones can be had for under $200, and used Kreitlers for not much more than that. It will take you a couple weeks to get fully comfortable on them but they are soooo much better than riding a stationary trainer. If you have some extra coin and train indoors a lot Inside Ride E-Motion rollers are amazing.

Even the best rollers do not provide enough resistance. Or maybe I’m just ultra-powerful…

I don’t think it would fit on a P2SL. Not enough clearance. Interesting idea, I’ll look at it.

I do intervals up to 450 watts, and know of several people who do controlled sprints on their E-Motion Rollers. The Kreitlers use different sized rollers for added resistance, or the the headwind unit. Not sure about others.

Yep… not enough.

And at what cadence do you generate 450 watts?

All of my nashbar ones have been fine.

I’ve got rollers, had them for years. I still prefer the KK.

My Kurt Kinetic works great too.
