650 Tire Question

Picked-up my first tri-bike over the weekend (p2k) and since I’m a short bastard it has 650 wheels. The tire choices seem to be limited. Any suggestions for a decent tire for training. And no I haven’t worn out the ones that came with it in 4 days. Just getting some ideas so next time I’m buying bike stuff I can order a pair to have on hand.

Thanks,

Rob

Continental Gatorskins

I’ve put about 1000 miles on mine so far and am really happy with them

Performance and Nashbar only have them in 700 not 650’s. Is it just them or maybe they don’t come in 650?

They come in 650c. I have those on my bike now too.

I also hear that the Bontrager Hard Case tires are now offered in 650c sizes. I hear those are even more durable and flat resistant than the Conti stuff. I’ll probably try those out my next go around…

try biketiresdirect.com You can search on 650c tires and see what they have. I’ve had similar issues finding tires in the past for 650c wheels. BTW, I’ve been riding the Tufo tubular/clinchers the last 500 miles and now I won’t ever go back to regular clinchers.

Rob, go to worldclasscycles.com and talk to roger. Great inventory, great prices, and super service. Best wishes,

I have the 650 tire curse, as i call it since my first bike was 650 and all others are now since my racing wheels are 650. If you have looking for cheap training tires that hold up I would recoment kendas. They are not the best in terms of race performance but I have had some luck with them being durable.

Supergo generally has them for $15 and they even go on sale for less then that.

Good Luck,

RF

I buy them local

www.bicycletires.com has them for $32.95

The do come in 650’s, I’m not tall enough to ride a 700 tri bike

A good all round tire is Conti GP3000. I would go with the gatorskins however I don’t think they come in 650c.

Gatorskins do come in 650c. If you have trouble finding them, my LBS (http://www.gearwestbike.com) always seems to have them in stock.

Hey thanks!

I swear I checked the conti website last year and they didn’t have 650C’s in the Gatorskins. I’ll look into gearwest. They’ll come in handy for spring and fall riding.

Thanks for all the great info guys/gals.
