Oh, I dunno . . . Maybe because he’s on 60 Minutes doing an interview about shooting bin Laden?
Either that or the conspiracy theorists are pissed that he may blow the lid off the not-so true story that OSB died in '02-'03, was on ice since then, only to be rolled out and shot Hollywood style in order to save POTUS’s falling numbers.
60 Minutes promo says, “He’s one of the Navy SEALs who shot bin Laden. So why is he in trouble with his fellow SEALs and the government?”

I really miss the days when we glorified the “quiet professionals.”
I agree. Part of his job was to remain quiet. Seems that he realized the troubles he caused (for others and himself). Still no excuse. His only point with which I agreed - Secretaries of State, DoD heads and others in positions of leadership are able to profit from their positions. Seems like a double standard.

What? That’s ridiculous. The SoS, DoD and president put their political careers on the line. They could have suffered serious career setbacks if something went wrong. The Seal only risked his life to carry out the mission. Political careers are much more important than the life of some soldier/seal.

Good point. As any Seal will tell you, paper cuts are the worst.
The tempation of becoming an instant superstar courtesy of today’s media circus is an increasingly powerful siren song, even for the those folks who previously committed to a life in the shadows.
Such an opportunity was admittedly easier to shun back in the days of not being so readily available.
Perhaps this dude is a recently-turned glory hound, or maybe he’s going to expose some shocking secret about the op, or perhaps he just has some related or unrelated beef he wants a soapbox for. In any case, it shouldn’t be happening.
God bless & godspeed to the vast majority of special operators who are out there taking care of assigned business all with an abhorrence to making any headlines.
First, SEAL is an acronym. It’s written in all caps (not meant for Vitus).
Second, this guy is mostly in trouble because he didn’t bother to submit his book for review to ensure no classification issues. I don’t, quite frankly, buy into his whining about how hard his life has been. None of that apparently has stopped him from writing a second book, which he is now on the road promoting.
There is also a secondary issue at play in regards to the SEAL creed and general Ethos, " I humbly serve as guardian to my fellow Americans always ready to defend those who are unable to defend themselves. I do not advertise the nature of my work, nor seek recognition for my actions." The SEAL creed is taken seriously and most current SEAL’s i have spoken with have zero respect for those seeking the limelight and or discussing these missions.
Now there is a another issue as articulated by my good friend who has served close to a decade in the teams (still going strong!). He said his trust in leadership is at an all time low, all the way up his chain of command. This is partly fueled by several incidents where he has lost team members because of restrictive ROE’s or poor decision making, but also due to the political mindset of most officers trying to cover their ass. The amount of paper work that goes on after every mission is insane and some of the stories he has told are unbelievable as to how litigious the military is these days. The point is he said some of these guys post retirement are simply doing this as a middle finger to the Obama Administration because of their frustration with his handling (by his handling i am going all the way down the chain of command) of the use of special operations forces. The spec war community is serious divided right now as far as i can tell and a lot of that stems from discord in DC along with distrust in senior leadership.
Having work with SEAL teams in the past. This entire episode reeks of the true meaning of their acronym…Sleep. Eat. and Lift. Because that’s what the majority of them do…
