6 below is too cold. I hate riding on my trainer, but I will.
I’m really upset too. It’s only 64 out right now so I might have to wear a long sleeve to the pool;)
Jerk.
we are the opposite here in Aus…38c here (100F)

Ha! I’m going to one up it. They turned the heaters off Monday and kicked the chillers on. I mean the water does get hot when it’s 80+ out;)
Unless it’s a race (CX, early season crit) I see no reason to be outside on my bike once the temps get into the teens. As much as I dislike the trainer there is a time and place for it.
Now I will run at those temps till a point.
I wore a long sleeve tech to the pool this morning but was just about sweating, should’ve gone tank top.
Well, good thing you don’t live in MN. You would have been on the trainer since mid-November…
Or Québec
It was -22 celcius this morning for the 6th or march…
What is this madness, we were riding at this date last year!
Everyone in my parts messes up the terminology of the colder temperatures, so a little reference is required to determine your line
If you mean 6 below freezing (i.e 26F), then you need to just get out there and do it!
If you mean 6 below 0 (i.e -6F), then sure, your line is well and truly drawn!
If you mean 6 degrees C below freezing (i.e 21F), then, yeah it’s a little chilly!
I meant 6 below zero F.
I still ran. I threw on a couple of layers and cherished the ice that grew on my eyelashes.
I just went from plus 30C to lower than -20C (50 degree temp change). Interestingly, in both cases there were clear blue skies. But in one case, when I stepped outside my glasses fogged over from the humidity outside after being in AC inside and in the other case my glasses fogged over when I stepped inside from the cold dry air to in house air temps.
Kudos to you Sir! My line for running is well above anything that has a “-” in front of it.
For me, running outside in the winter is completely dependent on what the sidewalk/path’s conditions are. I’ve bundled up and got out there in -35C before, but if its very icy or slushy its not worth it for me. 1-2" of hardpack snow@ -5C is probably my favorite outdoor running conditions all year.

This. I can run in any temperature…but won’t go out the door if there’s any chance I’ll slip on ice and injure myself. As for the bike, I hate taking it on and off the trainer, so I’m waiting for a true weather break.

Um, I mean this in a very positive suportive way. But go fuck yourself. I live in Michigan and this shit is getting old. Real. Old. We have a serious shot at a winter that started before Thanksgiving and will end after Easter.
I agree with you. I biked to work when it was that cold, but it was only 6 miles. I could stand running outside when it’s that cold, but prefer cycling indoors when it’s below 40 degree F. Of course, there days in Jan. when it’s sunny and in the low-30s that seem much warmer than it really is.
Line is waaaaay lower than mine. 40 is my line and even then if it’s not sunny or it’s windy out I’ll probably hit the trainer. I hate being cold and I can’t keep my feet warm anyways
