5k Running route Toronto?

Hi all,

I am going to be staying at the Crowne PLaza Don Valley on Eglinton near the Don Valley Parkway. Are there any good park routes for a 5k or so run nearby?

Thanks.

Lots of trails nearby… you could easily run up to 20M mainly on trail from there.

You’re right next to Sunnybrook park, or you can run down the Don Valley Trail… which connects up to a whole heap of options.

Run west along Eglington past the intersection of Don Mills & Eglington ( careful crossing this intersection - it’s one of the busiest and craziest intersections in the city). The road will start to drop down and you will see the Don Valley opening up. As another poster said, once down in the Don Valley there are over 20 miles of quiet roads and trails that you can run on. If you head south - you can run all the way down to lake Ontario. If you head roughly north you can run up to Sunnybrook park. There are a number of parks all linked up as the follow the Don River from Lake Ontario north all the way through the city.

Ditto what Fleck said…but if you’re looking for a 5K run, just running from the Crowne Plaza to Sunnybrook (Leslie and Eglinton) and back would be close to 5K. If you want to enjoy the park, you’ll need to go longer.

Definitely go where the above posters have said. The entrance to the park is at Leslie and Eglinton - about a mile west of you (maybe a bit less). The entrance is just a bit north on Leslie from Eglinton, but I think you’ll see it once you reach that intersection.

Going north in the park, you can run up to Edwards Gardens as well as Sunnybrook. The route to Edwards Gardens is only 1 mile, but it’s a nice run. The route to Sunnybrook is along the road, but there’s a few places you can get onto trails. Once you get close to the bottom of the hill where the stables are, there’s a left turn that goes across a little bridge. If you go over that and then turn right into the walking paths, there’s some amazing running through the trails there.

That park is where I do all of my long runs. Enjoy!

I also do many of my runs in Sunnybrook. There’s a great 5ishk one can do entirely on trails in the park…take the road into the park, drive all the way to the end up the hill to the sports fields. There’s a trail that rings the sports fields, that is grass/trail/woodchip. Quite scenic and pretty.

If you want to do some fun hill repeats, the path right behind the horse ring is ideal.

Feel free to PM me if you want a guide or company, I may join you. A 5k might be just what the doctor ordered after LP.
