58cm P3C (1)

Hi,

I know my question is probably going to create some angry responses but I’m curious so I will ask it anyway. I have come across a great deal on a 58cm cervelo p3c frameset. I am 6’2" and have pretty short legs and a long torso. I currently ride a 59cm lemond road bike. I dont have a good bike fitter in my area (at least that I know of) but it would be great if I could take advantage of this deal. I have read all the articles about the funny fit of the P3C but I am hoping to get some further insight into specifically what bike dimensions will fit a person about my size. Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Tom

Sounds like it is probably the right bike for you. Depends on how aggressive you want to ride, but that should allow you to get into an appropriate ST approved position.

I’d say a 56cm. I’m 6’0" and ride a 54. Depending on how low and how small of a bike you want you may even be able to get on a 54. I could probably fit on a 51 if i wanted to.

If you are looking for the ballpark response it is ‘yes that bike shoudl fit you’. But don’t blame me if you have really short legs and can’t stand over the thing

6’ and on a 54? How much drop are you riding around with?

“don’t blame me if you have really short legs and can’t stand over the thing”

That’s a really good point. Assuming there is clearance for the junk he should be fine though.

A lot. but thats only because i have an adjustable stem on it to go lower. If i didn’t have it i would only be at a normal drop level. But then again khai thinks i have monkey arms since i can pick rocks up off the street without getting out of my saddle.

Ha- found a picture before i put the adjustable on hold on…

THats with out an adjustable stem and what i would ride if i were doing ironman.

sounds right. the fit isn’t funny, it’s spot on. Read the history of the geometry on the cervelo site and it will make sense. the thing you’ll really like is the low standover. This is perfect for the short legs, long torso type.

The problem is the damn top tube is just so flippin long… Its longer then my 56 t-12.

Not sure if this will help but I am 6 foot and ride a 56 P2C with 13cm of drop. I am the oppostive though, long legs / short torso. I found the taller head tube of the P2 to be a much better fit than the P3.

from the picture/dimensions of the big you’ve got longer legs/arms i would guess.

all you do is look at the frame size of the cervelo and then pick which seat post configuration you’re using. I’m riding the 58cm frame in the forward seat position. that gives me 56cm of TT. add your stem length and figure out which size frame you need.

Thanks guys,

The thing is in my head I was leaning toward a 56 but this deal came up and I ride a 59 road bike and am trying to convince myself that I wont regret getting the 58. Stand over should not be an issue, according to Cervelo’s site it is 31.5". Which will be plenty for me. How much will this large a frame hinder me from riding an agressive position?

Do you have a tri bike now? If so, what is your drop? The P3C has a short head tube- you should be fine.

I do not have a tri bike now. I ride my road bike with clip-ons, so needless to say this would be a big upgrade. I am just so excited thinking about building this frame up. Should I do it?!?!?!

Yep. Do it. Have fun :).

Jut do it. if the deal is that good and the bike is too big you can dump it in the classifieds or on ebay to get the right size.

I am 5 9 and I ride 56. Depends on personal preference I guess. I was fitted for a 54 but felt more comfortable on a 56 after couple of days riding both sizes. The numbers are just a strating point.

I tend to go bigger as well, but ride with no spacers and a fairly aggressive drop. At least I thought I had a lot of drop before I saw the picture in this post. That’s almost Bojrn like. No way I could ride that for 112 miles and maintain position and power though out.

The P3c 58 fits larger guys then it’s size indicates - it runs larger than you think. I think Tom D mentioned this as well. I’m 6ft 3 and I’m not even at it’s post limit. I run the saddle at 80 degrees and use a 125mm stem. Get fit by someone who knows what they are doing but the 58 sounds a good starting point.

take from this what you can…

6’2 and ride a 58 P3C with a 120mm stem and the seat allll the way forward (est seat angle where i sit is ~85) I have long legs and a short to regular length torso.

My suggestion… if you desire to ride REALLY steep… pass on the deal as I feel the top tube may actually be too short. That or find a 140mm stem that will work (AL steer tube no worries).

Good luck with the call.
