Damn, this race is really gaining popularity up to 700 this year…
Im in and hoping it will not be 95. That run is a long way with zero shade:)
I’m in… although I ran for the first time (30 minutes) in 3 weeks on Sunday… Might have to make this one an Aquabike…
I’m in but it will likely be a training day for me since it falls in the middle of my base 2 cycle, (IMF) and will also likely be mid 90’s.
You could always do the swim and bike youself, and find someone to do the run for you as a relay…
I am in! It is my first half…so I am a little (very) nervous. I felt the same way for Boulder Peak and it turned out okay, so hopefully this works out the same way. Too bad they didnt include Lee Hill in this course, ahahahaha just kidding! Good luck to everyone racing!
I am in as well, and it is my first 1/2 iron. Confident in my training but still nervous. The couse looks good, and 73rd is smooth as silk now that it has been repaved. Lets all hope for good weather and less accidents this time around.
I’m in too, and hoping that the doubling of participants isn’t a surprise to the RD. If it is 95 degrees out there, the last thing we need is to run out of water. Although, today was BEAUTIFUL and I’m hoping for exactly the same weather on Sunday, including the late morning rain shower!
My first half too, so it sounds like we are going to have 300 old timers, and 300 newbies. Could be interesting!
Anyone else ridden the “new” bike course? It’s screaming fast…
loved that race, injured this year with a herniated disk but plan to be back next year, t’was well organized and a gorgeous bike course.
I’ll be there, too, but probably as a DNF. A screaming case of PF peaked during the Boulder Peak run, so I had a cortisone shot last week to get the inflammation down. Still a little tender so I’ll probably just use it as a long brick workout…race the swim (LOL) and bike, then drop out after 4-5miles of the run. Can’t afford any more down time with the big push for Kona starting up now. ROCK ON!
Well, how did everyone’s race go? For my first half IM, I came up with an excellent game plan…well, sorta. I just went as hard as I could until my legs fell off. The last 2 miles of the run were uuuuugly, but it was very fun until that point.
Nice… I bet that run was hot. I did it as a relay (bike portion) which gave me two firsts… One - I had never done a tri as a relay. Second - I had never actually raced my bike without having to run afterwards (or swim before).
We ended up in 4th place out of 25 teams. A couple of buddies of mine really put the hurt on us though with a 27 minute swim, 25+ avg speed on the bike, and a 1:15 half marathon. It was a really great race though, great people, lots of fun.
My race went well until the run which I suffered through with stomach issues from start to finish. Posted a 5:11 and had I kept my run together would have been sub 5:00 easily. My swim still needs lots of work to be competitive though
Mine was a repeat of my DNF in St. Louis at HalfMax. Made it through the swim and 20 miles on that ripping fast bike course before I suddenly started having major pain in my back. Lost all power and limped the remaining 8 miles back to the reservoir and called it a day.
I now no longer believe it was dehydration, as I originally thought at HalfMax. I was well hydrated and perfectly fit. I would say it had to be my bike fit, but I don’t seem to have these problems on training rides.
Can’t figure it out, but it has made for a very disappointing triathlon season.
Sorry Steve, that is frustrating. It is strange you don’t get the same issue on a training ride. Have you had someone check the bike fit lately? Probably an easy place to start.
It sucks to be so amped for a race and have your body not respond. I was super frustrated with my run and had looked forward to the race for months. I am going to do Xterra this weekend for fun and then probably done racing this summer and just focused on IM AZ in April.
Bike fit is the next thing on the agenda. I DID convince the better half to let me get a TT Bike, so I’ll wait until that’s done. I’m finished racing for the season, so I’m not in a hurry.
Good luck with AZ.
Hey Steve, It was nice to meet and chat with you before the race…
