Running a 50k in a month. wondering if anyone has some good recommendations on what to eat during the event
I ran my first 50 miler last october and discovered I don’t eat nearly enough during the 26.2 mile runs. The obvious answer tho is only eat stuff you eat during your training runs. My favorite is def sweetish fish. (I know, not much nutritional value). Instant oatmeal with a LOT of water is also great.
First, good luck and have fun!
I did my first 50K this winter and thought it was an awesome experience. At the one I did, there were 4 aid stations that were really well stocked with stuff- chips, cookies, fruit, M&Ms, pretzels, potatoes, etc. Might want to find out how many aid stations, how far apart, and what they are planning to have- you may not need to carry anything except a hand water bottle.
I never ate much in training (just some Gu and Gatorade Endurance) but found that I wanted some salty stuff on race day. I took a few pretzels and salted potato slices at each aid station, but otherwise kept moving and drank water/Gatorade and had a few Gus. Something salty was a nice change from all the sweet stuff and also kept the cramps at bay! Seemed to agree well with the stomach too.
