4th of July Run for STers

I know many of you already have plans, but I was wondering if anyone would care to join me in a Patriotic Run (or ride) of 17.76 miles on Wednesday July 4th.
On your own, in your city, or with others, maybe we can run together across the US!
Any takers?
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
“Is life so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Almighty God, No! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death”.
-Patrick Henry

Katy and I will join you for 10K (plus warm up and cool down) from San Ramon, CA. The rest we will ride, if that’s OK.

clm

That is awesome!
The thought is of course the most important thing. 17.76 miles of any sort. Maybe even 17.76 minutes!
I will be out early for the run. I will give a report later in the evening!
I have posted this on a few other sites, as well as my local groups, and we are getting quite a lot of takers! I will let you know how many in my report.

Have a wonderful Holiday!

I’m running a 5k. If I do it in 17.76 minutes, I’ll be ecstatic as that’d be about 30 seconds off my best or more than a minute off my recent best. Is it going to happen? No, but whatever I do, I’ll try to find some American significance to my time.

why’d you say run or ride? Don’t we get a swim option?

Of course!
In fact you would be the most patriotic person I know, if you swam the 17.76 miles. (And you probably wouldn’t be the first):stuck_out_tongue:

Many folks in my tri group have “pledged” to do the distance in Swim/ bike/ run, or bricks or whatever.

Hit the water, think of our great nation, and watch out for dilweeds, (in the water and out)

I’m confused, what do the Irish have to do with the 4th of July?

I’ll be riding 40 and running 4 and thinking about you over there!

Silly Paulo!
The Irish had a very large role in the fight for American Independence, and on both sides! Several of the Loyalist groups in Ireland who were loyal to the occupying forces and King, were recruited to go to the colonies to fight against the Americans.
And still MANY others who were simply farmers or Catholic workers came all the way to this continent just for the chance to fight against the British. There were several all Irish regiments from New York as well as Massachusetts and others. This is how many of the Irish made it here prior the the Potato famine.
My family came over to Ellis island and fought in the Civil war in these very same Irish regiments left over from the Revolutionary War.

Or were you just trying to be silly?

I just think that the Irish are the people from Ireland. I know, silly me…

yup. silly you.

I’m there. 10K on the 4th with Cathy and Katy, 25K (pretty close to 17.76) on Saturday at Angel Island.

Which 10K are you doing?

I am up here in Hood River Oregon (Columbia River Gorge) on a windsurfing vacation and since tomorrow is forecast as no wind day :frowning: I will be doing my part with a nice run along the Old Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway. They have the best damn beer in the world up here…I need to go far. I rode my bike up towards Mt Hood this morning and it is still covered in snow…absolutely beautiful sight to see.

Hmmm… what if I did a 1.776 mile run? Does that count?

    • See ya there! You should know that they serve ice cream bars after the race. If you do the 5K, you can scarf down a dozen of 'em before the 10Kers get there! And if I do the 5K, there may not be any left…

"Which 10K are you doing? "
Run San Ramon. I’m thinking about running the 5K twice. Once for warmup and to get my distance for the day and then again for real.

Why don’t you just admit that the only thing the Irish have with July 4th is to know it’s something the English lost?? :stuck_out_tongue:
Then you’ll have the Aussies, the Kiwis, celebrating with you. Heck, the French too!

You can have mine…
Now if it were beer!!!

I am swimming tomorrow but it won’t be 17+ miles… I finally begged and pleaded enough and found a friend who will kayak along with me so I can get a good swim in across Echo Lake. With the little swim course I’ve got mapped out it should be 5-6k.
