44F. 15-25 mpH Winds - Who Rides Outside in this Type of Weather?

personally I think just because you have a 3 hour ride scheduled doesn’t mean you need to be a slave to that schedule.

Plus we know how overrated cycling in triathlons are, it comes down the the run most of the time. I always find it amusing triathletes spend sooo much time cycling but can’t average under 6:00 per mile on the run.

I hope you got out and did the ride.

I did just under 3hrs ysterday; it was high 40’s when I left (6:20am), raining lightly, and WAY windy. So I went slower than normal (which was easy, as I was beat from a long week of training), and dealt with it.

Old Russian proverb - there is no bad weather, only bad clothing. Dress for success. In spite of the moderately lousy conditions, I was surprisingly comfy overall. (I shoulda worn the sealskinz socks, as my feet got pretty soaked)

I really needed to get in a long ride, and I can’t imagine doing more than 1.5 hrs on a trainer. Plus, I pre-rode the bike loop of the upcoming HIM I’m doing, so I have a better idea what to expect. (the answer - PAIN. It’s a hilly monstrosity)

50 degs and under is when ya need to wear tights, not when ya call off a ride.

If it were a weekend ride, I would go out. Probably go mountain bike riding in a somewhat sheltered area. Also good for a run. Save the indoor stuff for the pre-work dark times Mon-Fri.

Sojourner,

Awsome pic but I must ask,

Are there any surfaces left in California that don’t have graffiti sprayed on them?

Isn’t it pathetic? People spray painting rocks and trees in national forests. Pretty warped reality for some of these people out here.

6.5 hours in northwest Chicagoland

3:30 out 3:00 in

30 mph headwind makes for mental dullness ( or toughness, I guess)
.

I just did 50 miles in 46 degree temps, with sustained winds of 25 gusting to 40. I’ve ridden in this sort of crap a couple of times, and every time swore it was the worst experience I’ve ever had on a bike. Same this time. Road as hard as possible and averaged 15 mph.

Was it worth it? I doubt it…
