Wow. There are not many things in this world that surprise me anymore, but this literally blew my mind. I cannot even comprehend how a child that young can develop such a typically adult habit. That combined with the “aggressive advertising” by Big Tobacco in Indonesia is truly disheartening.

Perhaps I was unclear. I put DIRECT blame on the mother, and indirect blame on big tobacco for not giving a shit that their product kills hundreds of thousands a year. The mother’s capabilities of being a parent were displayed when she said something to the effect of “I’m not sure how he started smoking, but one day we were in the mall and I looked over and he was smoking a cigarette.”

Welcome to the third world. I used to pay kids to help me clean out tents and when I gave the them the cash they would buy smokes and beer. They have bigger things to worry about.
