3T Dual Compatible Freehub

Reading a review it looks like the new 3T wheels have a freehub that’s Sram/shimano/campy compatible? Pretty cool! I’m surprised this is the first we’re seeing this. I hope more manufactures follow their lead! I don’t ride campy, but standardization is always nice. All these different head tube sizes and BB standards are getting a bit out of hand.

I think this has been around for a little while. Perhaps it was Edco that used it before?

Any insights on why it hasn’t caught on?

might get chewed up sooner, if its aluminum and has fewer contact points with the cassette, or heavier if they had to use steel, so that it won’t get chewed up.

I would guess that it is patented and that freehub standards are seldom left alone for very long.

I’ve wondered if there was something like this available. But then, it’s relatively easy to change out freehubs these days, and a lot of manufacturers make both types. So, with the amount of $$ that we already spend on components, how tough it is to just buy a new freehub body if you want to switch between Campy and Shimano on your road and tri bikes for example? It’s probably ‘easier’ to change out a freehub body than to remove one cassette and replace it with another. Just thinking out loud.

This is an OEM and retailer dream though. You have less invensted to service a wider range of consumers.
