$3500 up for grabs in Boulder

3 pro payout spots (2 male/1 female) at Boulder are still unclaimed with all the pros off the course. Yup, WTC should be adding more money to their total prize payouts off the already $5.1 million they have invested.

Think some money is still left in Whistler too.

Weird for this to happen with a race that probably had more pros spectating and volunteering then racing after sleeping in their own bed.

I would have stepped up but I suffer from asthma as is and don’t do well at altitude. You think some of the short course racers would have used this as throw-away race at the very least to get some experience. Little harm comes from swimming too hard and then biking too hard to realize at mile 2 of the run that yep, you need to work on your patience, pacing, and endurance. Wasted opportunity for sure for the Boulder crowd.

Yes because all the CO-based pros should:
a) race a very late IM relative to Kona, but less $ and points than Mont Tremblant which is the only real “Hail Mary” at KQing
b) race an IM simply because it’s close and pays even if they don’t normally race IM

That’s illogical. Yes, put a high paying IM late in the season but only a couple weeks before an even higher paying, higher points race on the same continent, then complain that nobody shows up. Weird why nobody did.

This is outrageous, no payout for the 7th place pro? Didn’t WTC get the message, the pros have spoken and they need more prize money? This is just further evidence of how out of touch the WTC is. How did they manage to sell out this event, didn’t everyone know there were only going to 7 pros at the race? The AGers must be furious, maybe I should be posting this on the thread that will be started to ream WTC for putting on an IM without enough of the vitally important “pros” to satisfy the true “IM experience” that all the AGers are looking for.

Do I denote sarcasm?

I almost started a thread last night when I realized this- “Meanwhile in Colorado…”
.

I was shocked. I know plenty of pros here that would not be competitive at a really big race and am kinda scratching my head as to why they didn’t do this one. My only guess is that they must have thought it would have been stacked and they wouldn’t have had a chance.

I’m glad you wrote that, because I was thinking the same thing, but in a really snarky way because so many residents think that Boulder is the center of the universe. I could see the thinking going: “omg EVERYONE is going to want to race Boulder, and ALL the top pros live here, I don’t stand a chance so I’m not even going to race.”

When in reality the rest of the world said, “Eh, Boulder, whatever.”

Hard to argue with this point. Hence where there are very few responses… Cricket, cricket!

The other interpretation is that the 7th & 8th place prize money was so low that the three pros who dnf’d didn’t even think it worth their while to walk the final miles of the marathon to collect it.

Yes, some people in the Starky camp want prize money going to 10th. But others of us thought it very illuminating that a mere $3500 for 7th was more (after taxes) than the 2nd place winner would take home, and that 6th place pay was just a joke. And you observing that no one cared enough to finish 7th or 8th in Boulder illustrates that point perfectly.

And it looks like it bled over to the amateurs too, as it was also the weakest age group race I’ve seen. Part of it might also be a fear of not being able to race as well at altitude, but that shouldn’t be a concern for anyone with at least a normal hematocrit level that gets to the race 4-5 days ahead of time.
