Did a quick search but didn’t find any aero info. Looking for info on what is a “good” aero base bar that won’t cost hundreds of dollars to put on my felt once I get the integrated stem swapped out for a more typical 31.8 stem.

Was always pretty impressed how well the stock Felt Bayonet did.
There might not a ton of head-to-head aero data for budget clamp on style base bars. I might just try to get something that looks thin from the front without much grip upturn if you are comfortable riding with a flat bar.

I was between that and the Felt and went with the PRO, but everything I read had them pretty even.
There is a pretty good correlation between how wide the 31.8 clamping section of the bar is and its drag. That big center cylinder is hugely unaero due to its larger frontal profile and the high drag coefficient of a cylinder compared to an airfoil.
For a basebar though, it’s also the determinant of how wide you can space the clipon bars.

True, but your chart is for super-critical Re# and this is not the case for a bike’s tubes. An airfoil shape is still better, but the difference isn’t that huge.
To get a feel for “how much?”, for a round cylinder the Cd will be ~1. In this case it’s 3.18cm diameter. The “best” base bars have ~8cm wide clamp and most are ~12cm. So the difference is 4x3.18 = 12.7cm^2. If your total CdA is about .25m^2 or 2500cm^2, this represents ~0.5% of your total drag.
I’d also look at the airfoil part though. Cd is more like .3-.4 for that, but it’s much longer than the clamp.

$49 shipped on ebay. Syntace Stratos carbon. 80mm center section and very thin airfoil. I’ve had these (in 390mm) over a year and no complaints yet. It’s a $300 bar, so don’t know why it’s sold so cheap, but it looks legit. Looks can be deceiving however…

The best clipon bar is the Felt Bayonet 3. They are aero, stiff, and riser kits are available for a decent price. They come on lower end IAs so you might find take-offs for cheap. is there a good place to get the clamps to attach the aerobar to the base bar? I can only find profile design ones for ~$60 which seems crazy for a small piece on aluminum. I could almost get a whole set really cheap bars for that
I just got some Profile Sonic Ergo 45/25 clip ons and am really happy with them. A bit heavier than I’d like, but super comfortable and adjustable (and importantly, you can adjust the pads and the extensions independently).
I had some Dedas (s-bend) that I just (a week ago) donated to the local college tri team (the pads were too narrow for my setup).
I have some Zipp Vulka Aluminas that I’m about to put in ST classifieds. Great bars with really good armrests and lots of adjustibility (but harder to dial in since you need to adjust the pads to move the extensions and vice versa).
Subsonic are inline with the base bar so it shouldn’t matter. $150 for base bar and extensions Ian pretty good IMO
sorry, i guess i’m being stupid. I’m only seeing the extensions sold for 50 to 100 and the basebar sold for 100 separately w/o any type of bracket to attach them, then seeing a bracket kit for sale for 60-150$
