How Tall? Its all Calories if hes eating enough he could do 20 IM and weigh 300lbs. Im more impressed with his knees.
he was morbidly obese and under 6’ tall. built like a sumo wrestler with everything jiggling as he ran. the guy had a great attitude and has a lot of fun so i give him full credit. as a former fat, lazy slob, it’s nice to see another fat guy doing something about it. he’ll get there soon…
if only the rest of the 60% of obese americans followed his example, we’d all have lower health care costs.
Hmmm, under 6’ 300lb and has done 20 1/2 IM. And you think he will get there? Did he once weigh 400, 350? What evidence is there he will get there?
Oh ya I am one of those Obese fat, lazy slob, americans. Im in better shape than a year ago. But if belt loops are any indication I am probably the heaviest I have ever been and up 5 -10 lbs from 8 months ago.
Hey I am exercising, but that just makes me more hungry.
hey friend, i’m not busting your balls for being fat. if you’re happy being fat, then so be it. plus you’re “in better shape than a year ago…” which is huge. nice job. keep going. how can you be a lazy slob if you’re doing tris?
as far as the 300 lb dude, i think they were showcasing him as formerly an even fatter dude (maybe 400 lbs), now losing weight thru triathlons.
i’m always hungry too, man. my biggest fear is getting injured, or burning out, then regaining all the flab i’ve burned off. i guess it’s a good fear to have.

Didn’t think you were mostly busting my own.
Your above qoute was my thoughts if he was maintaining 300lbs and completed 20 1/2’s he would be in big trouble when he stopped. Glad to hear he is on the decent, Big WAY TO GO to him.
It’s Michael Pate from beginnertriathlete.com. His site is www.whenbigboystri.com
He’s written a book and quite a few articles. Real positive guy, with something nice to say to everyone.
With the obvious jokes available at every turn, it is quite impressive that someone his size would have the cough fortitude to do something like triathlon.
Again, super nice guy that’s just having a blast.
awesome. I was 360 on july 21, 2003. i know how it can be. good on him for getting out there.
He should try to lose some weight. Running now at 230ish is 100x easier then when I was at 300, or even 250.
Here’s a link to the story: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/11/15/eveningnews/main1046665.shtml. He has a great attitude and definitely considers himself to be a work in progress.
Kind of sounds like he has done 20 sprints not half IM’s
“In the last three years, he’s swum, run and biked more than 20 races at about half the Olympic distance, which entails a .9-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike and a 6.2-mile run.”
.
yeah they were all sprints the way it sounds, which is smart. I hope he stays at it and resist the temptation to “go long”.
