I know it will be similar to Eagleman and will be flat but hot, but it would be nice to know if it’s 1 loop, multiple loops etc etc and also where the finish line may be.
Anyone have any inside intel out there?

IM Maryland elevation map:

I keep checking every week or so…hopefully it doesn’t go the way of the National Harbor 70.3…maybe the permits are taking extra time?

Why? What difference will it make at this point?
Doesn’t really make a big difference really. I’m just a planner and if it’s single loop on everything then will probably leave the family at home so they’re not bored to tears (not that they wouldn’t be already in Cambridge). Plus if the finish line is the same place as eagleman, there’s nothing to eat in that park etc etc.
I keep wondering why maps are not up yet, myself.
I check 2-3 times per week. Delays make me worried that the race is going to be cancelled which would really stink because I transferred out of IM Chattanooga.
Just checked and although no course maps are up yet, course descriptions are up:
Swim: 2 loops in the Choptank
Bike: The 112 mile 2 loop bike course is flat and fast; with a potential for wind. The course utilizes a majority of the IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman course working it’s way through Dorchester County and into the rural Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge
Run: The 26.2 mile 3 loop flat course will utilize a large portion of the IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman run course. Athletes will run through downtown Cambridge and will finish their day at the historic Long Wharf.
I’ve never done Eagleman or Chessyman. How do these descriptions compare?
If it is essentially double the Eagleman course, as it sounds, it will be the most mind-numbingly dull course you have ever been on. I still cannot imagine this thing lasts beyond next year.

The run course going through town is significantly different than Eagleman. But I agree with you about the bike if it is a double loop–I wouldn’t want to do that loop twice–very boring. There is a century ride that runs out of that park that adds a different part of the wildlife refuge, so it may be possible to get to 112 without a double loop. There is not a lot of traffic back there so I wouldn’t think it would be hard to score the permits, especially since Chessieman was already in place.
Does anybody have any insight on lodging? I have not signed up yet, and an important consideration is availability of quality lodging nearby. Thanks.

If the run course if different, good for them. But japarker said it utilizes a large portion of the EM run course. I have to imagine that means a lot of time on that long straight shadeless road EM uses. I guess the response to my negativity is, “Hey, the Kona course sucks too,” or “no one said IM has to be interesting.” All true. Just buyer beware.
Depends on what your definition of nearby is. If you mean within walking distance of the start and finish area, very limited to none. Even if you stay at the host hotel, you’ll be driving. It’s not like one of the other Ironmans where lodging within the center of everything and is in abundance. All the people that I know that did Eagleman or ChessyMan all had to drive 5-20+ miles from where they were staying. Some even camp at a nearby school. I’ve done Eagleman twice and all the lodging are either not nearby or are booked a year ahead of time.
Thanks Zoomer. I hate having to get up and drive to and from a venue. Oh well.
I just noticed there is no check-in on the day before, Friday. You have to check-in on Wednesday or Thursday. Is that the norm?
I’m 2.5 hours away so don’t think I’d stay an extra night, probably just do a day trip on Wednesday to check-in.
***Please note: **Athlete Check-In will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 and Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m… Athlete Check-In will NOT be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 or on race day. Please plan your travel accordingly.
*Schedule Change for 2014 – Slot Allocation and Rolldown for IRONMAN World Championship qualifiers will be held at 11 a.m. the day after the event. All qualified athletes must be present at the Slot Allocation/Rolldown Ceremony to claim their slot – no exceptions. We suggest arriving 15-20 minutes early. Please plan your travel accordingly.

Yes, that is normal check in procedure for IM brand races. What makes this one a little different is that it is a Saturday race. A little different since most are Sunday races.
Does anyone know if Ironman is only committed for this year or do they have a multi-year commitment like in other Ironmans? I can’t do it this year (doing Vineman Full already) but would love to participate in 2015. Anyone have any intel on this?

Bump. Anyone know anything about the IM Maryland contract as it relates to 2015?
Well that’s massively inconvenient, glad I saw that now. Any particular reason they won’t do check-in the day before the race?
trying emaling the race director.
