I read a lot about people who will get up as close to race start as they can and/or down a luquid meal replacement, gel or fruit before a race or big training day. I understand that different folks have different needs for what works for their stomachs but am i the only one that feels like one of the best parts about big training days and pre-IM’s is the 3-4 hours before you start? I like to wake up and have a good size meal- oatmeal, banana, a little protein powder and some almond butter all mashed up in a big bowl chased down by a couple cups of black coffee. Once that is done then there is nothing to do but let yourself digest (physically and mentally). There’s nothing more you can do for preperation, everyone else is still sleeping so you get some quality time to either reflect on your journey or the day that is ahead of you. Nice comfortably full stomach and a little caffeine buzz to get you a bit energized and for me this quality time where it’s just me and my thoughts with eager anticipation is something I look forward to almost as much as the race. Anyone else?
So you get up at 2:00AM for clip-in at 6:00AM for a training ride? You are too hardcore for me. The spousal unit thinks I’m an idiot because it takes me an hour to get out of the house the way it is and that’s with everything set up the nite before.
I am a morning person but not necessarily 2:00am. I’m up at like 3:30-3:45 for pre-IM or maybe 6:00am on weekends for a 9:00-10:00 big training day start time.
