2Q's about the Vision alloy basebar

Help!!

  1. I am thinking of asking for the Vision alloy basebar for christmas. I think i read that this bar is a zero degree bar and I assume this means it is flat. However pictures of the bar on retail websites (no local shops carry it) looks like there is a drop. Is it indeed flat?

  2. The bar comes in 42 & 40. How does one decide which size is more appropriate? I am riding a size 53 QR Tequilo and don’t really know what size the spec bullhorn is - nor do i know what protocol is used to measure base bars. I also don’t know whether or not my current bar is the ideal size for me so i cannot be sure that measuring my current bar and buying that size is even appropriate. Disclaimer - i have been on this bike through 2 seasons and it was my first bike purchase as an adult so don’t have anything to compare it to.

You mean the new aero-shaped one? I just got one on my new bike. It is nearly flat, as in a very slight drop from the clamp. I would call it “virtually flat.”

I have the 42 and it’s rather narrow. I’m not a wide-shouldered guy, and I wouldn’t want it any narrower. The 42 measurement is to the outside of the handgrips. I would guess that somebody 5’8" or bigger would definitely want the 42. Under 5’4" would probably want the 40. In between – I don’t know. You gotta decide.

Most people like bars a little wider than their shoulders. Hold your arms out in front of you so they are parallel. You want the bars a little wider than that.

Hey greenjt,

Yup, those suckers are flat, that is, no drop. The grip section of the base bar curves up a triffle for ergonomics, but there is no drop in the handlebar itself.

We have both the 40 and 42cm in stock and the 42cm outsells the 40 probably six to one. I use a 42 and it feels comfortable on my 53cm Cervelo P3SL. I also used a 42 on my Cannondale Slice Aero.

In general, we sell tons of these. I think you will be very happy with them.

Best wishes,

Tom.
