222 community fund slots still left for IM Canada 2009? Is this normal

It seems odd that such a popular race would have so many community fund slots still open four months after the race “sold out”. Anyone know if this is a first.

I was thinking the same thing. $1,300 is a lot of money.

I blew at least that much for my wife and I to fly to Spokane, rent a car, pay for gasoline, drive to Penticton, pay for lodging and food all weekend, volunteer for the race, driveback and fly home.

I would have much rather saved the vacation time and dropped the cash today. Would have made out beter I think.

yeah, seems like they’ve been fishing to see where the plateau is for what they can charge for a CF slot and have definitely reached that plateau. Not sure if it’s a combonation of it going up $225 in one year plus the sagging economy, plus the emergence of non-Mdot events, but it does seem like all the big race slots were just about sold out at this point last year?

Definitey.

I’m in the same position this year though with a CF slot. Registered for IMCDA last year through the regular entry ($525), but now I have a wedding to be at that weekend of all weekends. I’ll get the $150 refund from NAS and then I am justifying not have to pay for 2 plane tickets, rent a car, 4-5 nights stay in a hotel, gas, food etc to pay the $725 for a CF slot to IM Florida being that I can drive there, spend 2 less days in a hotel and make it an extremely cheap trip. Will definitely come out ahead doing the CF slot for Florida than I would paying for all the travel crap for CDA.

Of course I could just take my $150 refund and skip IM all together this year and save a lot of money, but that’s not an option!

Funny you say that, my brother got engaged and called to tell me a few weeks ago. He was excited to be getting married on August 29th and was really excited to have he by his side as his best man. I mentioned that if he checked his email, I asked him back in September to come to Canada for a vacation (as long as I had the house it would be chaep) to see me race that weekend at IM. What a cool bro, he changed the wedding two weeks earlier on my account.

Cheers,

Dave

Not to mention a $775 tax writeoff
